This is an arrangement I made for fifes, drums, hautboys (oboes), bassoon, trumpets and timpani, of the March from Henry Purcell's "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary". It is one of Purcell's most haunting pieces, and is known by some from Stanley Kubrick's film "A Clockwork Orange".
It will serve as the Campaign Defeat Theme for Great Britain in the mod described below.
The image shows trumpeters and drummers in the funeral procession of Archduke Albert VII of Austria. The print is a 1623 issue by Cornelis Galle the Elder of the original engraving by Jacob Franquart.
This music will appear as soundtrack in the upcoming "Seven Years War" mod for Rome Total War. If you want to know more, check out the Discord link or ModDB page below (the Discord is the one most frequently updated). Cheers to the modders for their hard work, I'm happy to be on the team!

I have always wanted to go back in a time machine and see when this tune was played. Since I was a child I have always thought of this tune as sounding very fateful and a bit threatening. But it also reminds me the growth of great power that was emerging as a dominating power over the seas

I couldn't agree more! It must have been quite a sight, the black-dressed, solemn procession, the eerie music, the beating of dampened drums, thousands of people watching as it passed. It must indeed have been both an anthem for a dead queen as much as a display of magnificence.

I bet if you tried explaining A Clockwork Orange to the actual Queen Mary, she'd have a stroke.
