Imagine an enchanted fantasy world of timeless characters and magical moments where nothing goes right for toy makers, Stannie Dum and Ollie Dee. Based on the original Babes in Toyland, this movie is a dazzling spectacle of 6-foot wooden soldiers, Mother Goose characters and the beloved team of Laurel & Hardy. This holiday classic is perfect for the Christmas season. In vibrant color and restored!

This movie is wonderful. The story, the acting, the singing, everything. The work that went into building the sets is amazing. The people responsible for making this classic had a vision that brought joy, laughter, and something to never forget to children and adults. Thank you.

I agree. I have enjoyed watching "The March of the Wooden Soldiers" many times ... enough times to notice little mistakes others are unlikely to spot. When Ollie is reading Stan's I.O.U. note ... Ollie pulls the note out of the can right-side up (a little mistake on his part) ... and Stan turns it over (as rehearsed) but he is actually turning the note upside down. Also... when Bo Peep and Tom Tom are sitting on the bench side-by-side ... just prior to being surprised by the crowd ... Tom Tom has his left arm around Bo Peep's shoulders ... and then he looks over his LEFT shoulder (at the crowd) but in the next shot Tom Tom is looking over his RIGHT shoulder and his arm is not around Bo Peep. (the director should have caught that one) And ... When Stan is waiting to be "ducked" ("duck" is a word used when dunking is a formal punishment ... appropriately used in the movie) and when Stan is saying that he doesn't have to get wet ... and Ollie pushes into the water ... Stan is wearing a cloak ... but when he stands up in the pool of water ... he is not wearing the cloak. Also .. when Stan and Ollie go over to Barnaby's home ... with Ollie in the box ... and Stan looks up to the window ... he lifts up his mask and talks to Barnaby. In the next shot Stan talks to Ollie ... and again pulls up his mask .. when it is already up (or should have been anyway ...if the scene had the proper "continuity"). Finally ... when Stan is dressed as a bride ... and after his veil is removed ... and after Barnaby leaves the house ... notice a woman's face in the background. You can see her face only when it is Stan talking ("I don't love him") You can see the face of a woman ... who is sitting on a chair there (the chair can be seen in earlier scenes) ... an unbelievable mistake to allow .. likely a member of the crew ... to sit there while the scene is being filmed in front of her.

A Thanksgiving Morning Tradition And A Christmas Morning Tradition As Well as The Traditional Macy's Day Parade and The Traditional Day Dinner. The Scripture tells of what man created for evil God turned it around and made it for GOOD. AMEN! THE MEANING OF THANKSGIVING HAVE TRADITIONALLY REVERSED FROM ITS ORIGINAL BAD MEANING TO WHAT IS NOW A GOOD MEANING. GIVE THANKS FOR WHAT WE HAVE NOW AND FOR WHAT WE HAVE GONE THROUGH AND SURVIVED. AMEN, AMEN, AND AMEN.

the mouse is actually a monkey ... a capuchin monkey ... trained to do the tricks needed in the movie. Funny you should mention Mickey Mouse because Walt Disney was very protective ... and quick to file lawsuits ... if anyone "borrowed " his ideas or characters. But he and Hal Roach were friends ... and Walt allowed Hal to use the Disney tune "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" which can be heard when the Three Little Pigs make an appearance

Yes. If you have ever wondered how they managed to get the mouse to do all of those antics ... like flying the little Zeppelin ... it is because it was actually a monkey ... a capuchin monkey ... in the mouse costume. Capuchin monkeys are very small ... and very intelligent ... and can be taught tricks and maneuvers (like clapping and piloting a little Zeppelin.)

If the mouse looks like Mickey Mouse ... that was no accident. You see Hal Roach (the producer of "March of the Wooden Soldiers") and a young Walt Disney ... were friends. And Walt ... normally VERY protective of his "property' ... and no doubt wanting to curry favor with Hal Roach (the biggest name in movie making at that time) ...allowed Hal Roach to use the Mickey Mouse character AND allowed hime to use the Disney's song "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" ... the melody of which can be heard in the background when the three little pigs are the center of a scene. Walt would years later produce his own version of "March of the Wooden Soldiers" ... calling it "Babes in Toyland" (the original title) ... but it is crummy ... maybe the worst Disney movie produced in Walt's lifetime.

it's a great movie ... completely clean ... with a plethora of good ideas (and Laurel and Hardy at their best) Hal Roach was putting the movie together when he approached Stan Laurel (Stan made all the business decisions for the pair) to appear in it. Stan read the screenplay ... which had been taken directly from the stage play ... and said no ... the script was terrible (and it was) so Hal Roach offered to let Stan rewrite the screenplay ... which he did (with the help of two screen writers) but Hal Roach hated the revised script (which is what we see here) ... but Stan gave him an ultimatum ... "use this screenplay or we don't do the film" and Hal gave in ... and we got this great movie from a sreenplay largely written by Stan Laurel (uncredited) But Hal and Stan argued frequently and bitterly (it would lead to them parting ways after this movie) ... and I think Hal refused to admit the script was good out of spite.

I think she did the best acting job ... of all the performers in the movie. Her screams ... when being chased by Boogie men ... are great screams. She was also in "Alice in Wonderland" prior to "Babes in Toyland" ... beating out 900 other women auditioning for the part of Alice. That movie has a star-studded cast too .. but it is crummy. "Alice in Wonderland" is available for free on KZbin.

Charlotte Henry .... looked liked she was destined for stardom. Prior to this movie she starred as Alice in "Alice in Wonderland" having beat out more than 1,000 other girls who auditioned for the part (the movie stinks despite a stellar cast ,, available for free on youtube) But her career fizzled out ....(she claimed that she had "lost interest") .... but it is more likely because she was a major B**** ... and caused trouble on every set she was on.... and the offers just stopped coming.

Walt was always VERY protective of his copyrighted property ... like Mickey Mouse ... but he gave Hal Roach permission to use a Mickey Mouse type character in "Babes in Toyland" (which was a capuchin monkey in costume) ... and a Disney song ... "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" ... the melody of which is played just about every time the three pigs appear

True Kevin. "Babes in Toyland" ... made in 1934 ... was re-released in 1952 using the new title "March of the Wooden Soldiers"... as the producers hoped to capitalize on the remarkable popularity of that one scene where the wooden soldiers come to the rescue of Toyland. Of course, they couldn't remove the original title "Babes in Toyland" from the introduction ... either from the large wood block or from the large book that Mother Goose comes out from ... which is a good thing because it is a very charming beginning for this movie.

Hello everybody, I hope u guys knew about this... Dee: Here's another nice mess you've gotten us into. Dum: Well, I couldn't help it. Due to Oliver Hardy & Stan Laurel talk in a same voice. Then they didn't put it back in a box. I've already said, "Whatever." I'll say it again. A movie... March of the wooden soldiers was released black & white in '34. The idea is I'm always watch this video of a wonderful movie with the two boys r Dee Plays by Oliver Hardy & Dum plays by Stan Laurel in called, "March of the wooden soldiers 1954." I'd rather say this movie played again in '54, remastered color on VHS with Samuel Goldwyn in '91, & a DVD remastered colorized one in 2006. Do they have the same birth year?? A birth year of my Father is 1954, & Uncle 1955. Best wishes, this is Michael Meneses.

Yes. Very scary. The actor ... Henry Kleinbach (later changing his name to Henry Brandon) was 21 years old when he portrayed Silas Barnaby. It's true. Hal Roach ... the producer of "Babes in Toyland" (later re-named "March of the Wooden Soldiers") ... was looking for an actor to portray Silas Barnaby ... and while attending a stage play ... spotted a portrayal of a old man he thought was perfect for his Silas Barnaby character ... so Roach .... who was arguably the most famous movie maker in the country at that time ... sent word to the actor to come to Roach's hotel room ... and he was certainly surprised when the tall handsome AND YOUNG Henry Kleinbach walked in. Roach didn't believe he was the same actor he had seen on stage ... so Kleinbach went into his old man routine ... and Hal Roach was convinced .... and he signed Kleinbach to play Silas Barnaby.
