I was struck by you saying you needed to normalize your day. I too when life was tough did the same thing. I enjoy your choice of books.

Trying to normalize the day is the only way to get through things like this, I guess. And also: thank you!

So sorry to hear about your mother, I've experienced similar with a grandparent and it is difficult for everyone. I hope you enjoy The Vaster Wilds! I really did, I found it so compelling, though I've never read Lauren Groff before. I'm so excited to read The Women, my copy just arrived! I think her writing gets better with each book so I have high hopes for it. Good luck with your March reading!

Thank you, Britta!🌷I’ve just finished reading White Teeth and loved it! Since it’s been my first experience with Zadie Smith, I have no comparison with her other works. What I can say though is that didn’t see the twist at the end coming, which, I think made a great, original story, perfect. You’re in for a treat. I’m glad to hear that you had the same reaction to Matrix I had. I’m now looking forward to yours (whenever you have time of course) and Heidi’s reviews of The Vaster Wilds. I wish you and your mother all the best.🥰

I loved White Teeth but I never really warmed to Smith's other work (though I haven't read her latest yet). And yes, she is someone who makes you want to like her books; she's so intelligent and interesting. The Well of Loneliness was a cult book when I was in my twenties and I read it then, but was secretly very bored by it and felt relieved when I reached the last page... I was probably too young to appreciate it. 🙂

Fingers crossed I will like White Teeth! And your comment about Well of Loneliness made me laugh. Let's hope I don't find it boring. ☺️

I read Hannah’s “The Nightingale “ It is much beloved. However, I found her writing flat and felt that she had created 21st century characters and put them in a novel set in WW II. But if you tell me “The Women” is worth it I’ll read it.

I hope your mother is doing better Britta. I'm sending good wishes to you both. ❤ I am very hit and miss (mostly miss) with Kristin Hannah. I've liked some, liked part of others and loathed The Nightingale - I think I'm an outlier on that one. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on The Women, should you have time and energy to get to it.

Thank you so much for your well wishes, Louise, I really appreciate it! ❤️ I'm really curious to read The Women (probably towards the end of the month).

The Women was set in Vietnam war and really came alive to me as my college and contemporary friends were conscripted to go to Vietnam in the late 1960's and 1970's. I listened to it on audio. Have just read all of Lauren Groff's books including The Vaster Wilds bit found it not to live up to its hype. Hope your mother is o.k. thinking of you at this stress filled time. .

Thank you fro your best wishes, I really appreciate it! ❤️ And I have the same experience with Groff's books, but I hope Vaster Wilds will be the exception to the rule...

What a list! I think Marguerite de Navarre sounds great. I have a copy of Vaster Wilds and the Well of Loneliness, in fact all the books you mentioned. It will be a busy month! And I’m off on holidays so maybe not a lot of reading. Thanks Britta.🤭

I’ve heard several readers I trust that say about Zadie Smith which I think is why I’ve avoided her thus far, keen to see what you think of White Teeth and the Kristin Hannah Britta, I read one of hers for the first Booktube Prize and it was decent.
