It's definitely hard to maintain a youtube channel on your own. Most of the bigger channels have people that do all the extra stuff for you, which I personally can't do right now either. I write books, and make soap, do art, etc. and it all takes a lot of work, and staying on top of trends and such is a pain. I took a break for a while when I was in school, but I came back and it is so different. I plan on writing for a while, so we can be friends - I won't go away :)

I'm resigned to having a tiny channel simply because I mix my videos. I am an indy author, I read and craft. I also am commenting on my personal channel and my actual posting channel is a different one... I'm fine with that, mainly because I view this as a record of my creative journey... I also don't read the popular stuff very often, more interested in my chosen genre sci-fi. Personally I think some people can't survive without drama and see mountains were there are ant hills. Thanks for the video.

I see booktubers who are either hobbyists or “book influencers”. The influencers only care about social climbing with or over other influencers. I stay away from the ones who only care about numbers. I care about the views, because if people aren’t watching my videos, then it’s either KZbin messing with me or it’s my content that needs to change. KZbin in general has a high turnover rate, so people come and go all the time. I would tell people not to take this too seriously, mainly do this for fun and go from there. I have slowed down my reading a lot, I also read what I want to read, and I stay away from the popular books. Some of my “friends” when I started on here, ended up reaching above me in numbers and don’t talk to me anymore. It is what it is 🤷🏻♀️

Exactly and yeah, the friends that I started with thing they’re either not making content or just left me behind

i'm not sure how i ended up here but excellent video! i've been a book seller for just about 20 years, and a lot of the booktube content i watch is either people who read in the genres i enjoy and can give me ideas for new books to read, or people who dissect books in depth (either ones i have read and have thoughts about, or books i won't be reading but the way the creator talks about the books is really engaging). the whole hauls/unhauls and people reading 50 books per month is just. stressful? and while i won't fault people for reading a lot, i think you hit the nail on the head with your thoughts about mindless and/or pressured reading. whatever in the algorithm sent this video my way, thanks! have another subscriber.

I don't think this is a bad thing, personally. Although this is a democratic platform, there are way too many people giving opinions without them being informed by experience or any kind of objective authority. Also, reading a lot doesn't mean you're widely or well read- close reading of texts is what counts in any area of literature.

I agree with you. I don’t think it’s bad thing and I think you’re very right.

I just enjoy documenting my thoughts on what I've recently read. My channel is just a hobby and i tend to keep it that way. I read for the enjoyment of reading. 🙂❤📚

Hey, I'm one of those that quit booktube! And it was 5 years ago now. For me, it was an odd reason. I got a new phone, and I couldn't get it to record anything but 4k video. And then the videos would not transfer to my computer because they were too large. But then, my laptop was really flaky. I moved on to gaming, and I had a far better time. Now I make a living gaming on KZbin. Funny thing. I looked up how many views Jesse the Reader gets. He has over 389k subscribers, and he gets the same number of views I do at 54k subscribers. Huh. Interesting! My booktube videos are still up, and they'll remain up. I doubt I'll return to booktube. No time. I've been reading far less, too. And about your walls. I love dark wall colours!

Thank you my better half is freaking out over the black room. His reaction was oh it’s black. lol it looks amazing though it makes that little room look so much bigger I quit because of people I got tired of people and I didn’t find the community I was looking for and then the stuff happened and it was the final coffin nail

I can only speak for myself, but I actively avoid in depth book reviews. Because they’re either a) a book I have 0% interest in or b) something I’m interested in and once I’ve decided I’m interested I want to learn as little as possible before I read it. I only watch reviews of things I don’t want to read but am still curious about - like I’m never going to read ACOTAR but I will listen to a 2 hour long breakdown by a booktuber who I enjoy. But if you do a title like “WHAT DID I JUST READ?!?!” - that’s a video I’ll click on
