I absolutely loved The God of Small things. But it is a tough and challenging read. So because it is your birthday month, I am voting for These Violent Delights.

"I got rid of that" LOL. From what you told about Providence, it reminded me of The Coming Storm by Paul Russell. He’s one of my favorite gay writers. Its first sentence: "The young man came striding across the threshold of Louis’s office with all the vigor and self-possession his recommendations had promised, and though something in Louis’s soul paused there momentarily, he dismissed that pause as nothing but a shadow." (Of course it’s very much more than a shadow…!)

Hi Jack! I'm really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Cinema Love! It sounds so interesting and I hope it'll be a wonderful birthday read. This is a tough vote! I fear that The God of Small Things might be quite bleak, so I choose These Violent Delights. I'm aware that the latter doesn't sound exactly like a laugh either 😂, but hopefully it will be an engaging read. I'll be 32 this year too!!! Though to be honest sometimes I still think to myself "How am I an adult person in their 30s? It doesn't feel right somehow, I know nothing, help meee!" 😅 I hope you'll have the most fabulous birthday month!

Hi there, First the vote....some months I like both...this month neither one rings my bell..but I will vote for Violent Delights 🤷‍♂ I have the first 7 Tales of the City books...back in the day, they were quite appealing because there was not a great deal of gay fiction available...I stopped buying them after book 7 as either they or I have changed. I have tried re-reads however and not been as impressed. Certainly not bad, but not the big deal I once thought of them as. I will be curious to see what you think . If I recall, Mona was not a favorite character for me. Also, I hope your birthday month is stellar from beginning to end!
