The drone for these smallpipes is phenomenal! This is a great piece in my opinion.

Great playing there! I've often recommended these Walsh smallpipes in A to people, as being a good-sounding, reliable, stable, well-tuned, trouble-free instrument for an amazingly low price. I toured with a set, and no matter what the weather, indoors or outdoors, the pipes performed perfectly. About moisture issues, with the all-plastic reeds and GoreTex bag I never had any moisture problems at all. And Walsh pipes come well set up, ready to play out of the box. The only Walsh pipes I've encountered that had problems were ones where the owner mucked with the reeds. Leave the reeds alone and you'll be fine!

pancelticpiper Thanks! You give a great description of what makes the Walsh smallpipes such an enjoyable and convenient instrument.

I recently (like last week) bought a set of these pipes and enjoy them very much. Thx Henderson's for taking the time to talk with me to figure out which small pipes best suited my needs. PS always enjoy listening to Stephen MacNeil play.

I am thinking of purchasing a set of these myself. This may have sealed the deal. Wonderful rich sound for poly. I'm shocked.

I love the sound of those pipes! If Brazilian importing and taxing laws weren't so absurd, I would be ordering a set right away :/

Hi, thank you for playing for us here and demonstrating the instrument so well. Like you, I also play the smallpipes mouth blown but I do encounter the usual problems with moisture. I have fitted a moose valve which collects lots of water, and have Bannatyne sleeve system fitted inside (good, but a time consuming nuisance to regularly dry out). Would you be kind enough to describe how you encounter and resolve moisture problems specifically with smallpipes and how it affects the performance of the cane chanter and drone reeds so we can apply some tips toward our own instruments? Is there any particular reason why you choose mouth blown over bellows? Personally, as a highland bagpipe player I found the feel of the arm strap and waist belt way too uncomfortable and restricting, despite the obvious dry air advantages of bellows, but in my case I probably didn'y persist enough. Have you ever tried smallpipes in the key of C and if so what do you think? Sorry, a lot of questions, but I'd really like to read your opinions of the above points as small pipes (and border pipes) offer such an amazing and versatile addition to our music. Thank you.

Thanks very much for your questions. We do demonstrate mouthblown and bellows blown styles. Choosing one is a matter of preference. The bellows technique does take some adjustment for pipers accustomed to the Highland pipes. Moisture is a consideration with mouthblown pipes. Walsh, Gibson, and others use plastic reeds, which play better through moisture. McCallum uses a cane reed and adds a Highland Reeds moisture control system. Pipes in A and B flat are the most popular, and D has a neat sound and special niche. Variety is the wonderful thing about smallpipes, along with the fact that Highland piping skills give you access to this range of instruments with different sounds, applications, and features. We'd be glad to discuss this more. And maybe this is video topic to cover in the future. Feel free to call, email, or chat from our website. www.hendersongroupltd.com. Thanks again!

Where can I get the score for the first tune?

Would these be playable if one was left handed ? With the bag under the right arm?
@crank24476 жыл бұрын
Probably not, because the bag aims the blowstick and the drones to the player's right. You might contact Henderson's or John Walsh himself to see if a left handed bag could be made. Do you play the bagpipes left handed now? If not, most left handers, myself included, play with the bag under the left arm.

Thanks for watching! Delco Highland Games, Dan & Tilly Clark. There's a title slide at the beginning with composers, too.

what types of small pipes are these, because I want one with a bellow so I don't have to blow unlike my highland pipes, but I can't find any with bellows.
@HendersonsPipes9 жыл бұрын
Drake Metcalf These smallpipes are made by Walsh, and a bellows blown version is available. McCallum bellows blown smallpipes are also popular. We carry both of these models. It does take some adjustment time for most Highland pipers to get comfortable with the bellows, but the techniques and fingering are the same, and it's a fun challenge for those looking for something different.

I will definitely look into it! I would love a new set of pipes, this kind of reminds me of uilleann pipes. And. Tell Steve I said hi!

And also *****, do you have to SKU number for the small pipes with bellows?
@HendersonsPipes9 жыл бұрын
Drake Metcalf Thanks! Will do!

Drake Metcalf You can see the Walsh bellows pipes here: www.hendersongroupltd.com/cart/pc/configurePrd.asp?idProduct=2800And the McCallum bellows pipes are here: www.hendersongroupltd.com/cart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=5986&idcategory=227Steve would be glad to talk about these sets, if you want to get into specifics about sound or what would be best for your goals. It's fun to have a different style of pipes, just for sake of variety.

Are these the three drone or the two drone pipes?
@HendersonsPipes9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. This is the 3-drone version (bass, baritone, tenor). We do have a video of the 2-drone Retro pipes here, so you can compare: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWLOpKmErrtkebc. Thanks again!
