This is very insightful! Thank you for showing this data.

Be fun to graph how much a band moved vs stand

And how much they marched versus how much they did flutter or jazz runs.

This is a cool comparison! E.g., full impact is usually around 30 seconds, and an outlier at about 1:40... and then there's Penstriped in 2021, which had full impact about 5 seconds in. 😂 of course, Hebron didn't do that show at Grand Nats, but just throwing that out as an example of another outlier.

Nice analysis, never gave much thought to how shows are paced. Gonna be paying closer attention to it now

Very cool! BTW at 4 minutes for the Carmel show it is a muted trumpet sextet

Thanks, I updated it! I definitely miss some of those details when typing at lightning speed during the show.

You should get in touch with General Effect Media for future marching arts things like DCI. THIS is a very cool piece of data that I'm sure they'd love to bring into the fold.

“Slower moments allowing to build with the solo”=hiding their actual ensemble
@velocitymarchingdesign2 ай бұрын
I wouldn't personally agree with that assessment. None of these bands need to hide their ensemble sound. Variety of orchestration is crucial to a musically compelling show, and that includes solos and small ensembles.
@KillinItWithFire2 ай бұрын
@@velocitymarchingdesign I totally agree with having solos and smaller ensembles, but when 1/3 of the show features just a few talented students, it does lead me to wonder about the quality of the full ensemble.
