Since 1868, the Marching Illini has entertained millions of fans with traditional and innovative performances that have paved a path of excellence making them known as “The Nation’s Premier College Marching Band.” In the 1920’s, John Philip Sousa called the Illinois Band the “World’s Greatest College Band.” Superlatives like this have come to be expected during the long and illustrious history of the University of Illinois Bands. The excellence of innovation continues today as the Marching Illini strives for the highest levels of musical, visual, and thoroughly entertaining performances in historic Memorial Stadium.

First halftime show I've watched since my grandma passed in August. I'm bawling over here. I really wanted to watch, because I love the Marching Illini and Lyric Theatre; so I wanted to see what they came up with. I didn't expect to immediately start sobbing when Seasons of Love started. My grandma and I had watched RENT so many times together. That musical became so special to me after watching it and it was more special because it was with her. This halftime show encompassed so much of what my grandmother loved: music, musicals, marching band (she played trumpet!), the Marching Illini, the 3-in-1, and of course (overall), her treasured Alma Mater. She was the proudest U of I graduate I have ever met. Thank you for the beautiful halftime show that made me feel a little closer to her today 🧡💙 Go Illini!!
