As Jukebox Diehard, I gotta say that it pains me to watch this. The Jukebox has always on another level, but JSU leveled up this night! Somebody stole the soul and relentless aggression out of our music. SU has always been an undeniable force when opposed with any band. Over these last couple years, we've allowed "rudy poo" bands to mentioned in the same sentence with us, let alone try to battle us. Saving music all season long for one battle won't get it done. I went to JSU from 98-02 and to be honest, I kinda miss hearing the Boom play some of those classic songs especially golden time of day and Secret Garden...those songs never lose their importance..The Boom has such a balanced sound and Jukebox has always had a loud sound but I prefer the Boom's balanced sound over the Jukebox anyday but I'm not going to lie like I don't miss the classics..the Boom should play a few classics this year against SU and Alcorn.

Alright, this is gonna be a long ass comment but i’m going to give y’all my analysis for this battle. First of all, both brought some serious heat. You can hate all you want on either band, but you can’t deny that they both smacked all night. Sound Signature: JSU has a dark, deep, and very rich sound going for them. Imo they are the darkest sounding hbcu band by far. Which is a massive plus. SU has a bright, well defined, and colorful sound signature. In this category, I like both so it’s a tie in this one. Arrangements: Both bands have amazing arrangers on their staff teams. They both take the time to acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses.But, I believe southern has the slight advantage. They arrange from many different genres of music. One minute, they’re cranking on yo ass, and then the next they are taking yo ass to church. So su takes the dub in this category. I also want to say, I don’t like highest in the room as a band song, but if it makes some of you jsu fans feel better, y’all arrangement was better. Song Selection: Both bands had great song selections. But i give jsu the edge in this one. Their responses were just too good. Sections: Jsu is very strong in terms of their low brass and middle brass. Su is strong in literally all of their sections. They are in my honest opinion, more balanced than jsu. But lets talk about the tuba sections since it seems like that’s what all the talk is about. Jsu tubas are easily the best sounding tuba section i have EVER heard. Yes, even better than the legendary Horsepower even when they were in their prime. But let me tell y’all about su tubas. I am very proud of them. They were easily the 2nd best section there. Some of y’all don’t know the history of su’s tubas. Their tuba section were on fiberglass tubas for over 50 years and only recently finally got their hands on brass tubas. The fiberglass tubas had holes in them due to all the years they used them. Yet they still pushed on them mfers, which made me always respect su’s tubas. Conclusion: This was a very great battle. And even though i gave su the dub in more categories, i’m gonna call it a tie. Both bands came in and showed out and proved that they are the best bands in the hbcu world.

Sound Signature: Spot on ! Arrangements: I have to agree until you said SU has an advantage when Taylor and Simmons are the only good writers, but Taylor is not writing as much anymore. JSU writes for all genres as well. They took Su ass to church at Boombox last year. Their book for that game alone was very diverse. TBH SU lost with that church song because this is Crankfest, I went to church that morning. Umkay. Song Selection: JSU by a landslide.. SU can't be recycling old ass songs and think that's going to win. How do you bring back three songs from previous Crankfest and 5th quarters from 4-5 season ago. Sections: We not even going to go there JSU entire band delivered. So did SU... I don't want to hear nothing about who used to play on Fiberglass (JSU did in the 90s) and who trumpets are louder because SU is top heavy and that is their structure. They are the only band with 65+ trumpets. That does not make them balance at all. JSU is heavier on the lower brass, but the trumpets are still heard. SU tubas are still heard let's move on. JSU was the clear winner here. SU misjudged this performance again. A "L" in their own house!

If we didnt arrange a song for 3 years our vault would still destroy most bands in the SWAC. How can you split so many categories and then say that the Boom was the clear winner? The only clear thing about last night is that your tpets are still garbage and your tubas make your band. Your arranger writes to that strength. Other than that he is in no comparison to either of our arrangers. You had a good showing indeed. Does that equate to a hostile take over? Hell no. Both bands had wow moments and in terms like that how can you claim the dub. I will agree with the song selection going the booms way but the difference in power and sound kinda washed that away. BBC you will be exposed again like you are every year. This year won't be any different.

Checking JSU Tubas they have better Tubas better quality indeed. It does make a difference in sound. SU Trombones, Baritones, French Horn and Trumpets off the chain. Went to the Circle City Classic Battle of the Bands in 2019, JSU won the performance against Kentucky University. While in the stand did not give what was expected to the audiences. On here hands down to the JSU Tubas. Hand down to the SU Trombones, Baritones French and Trumpets.

In retrospect.. if you kinda look at the time frame of what happened with the Jsettes, that may have been why the Boom didnt perform like this at the boombox classic. Things could have been quite different.
