I can't believe how happy I am with all these shells I have been finding. The pure white albino Florida fighting conch is very rare to me, I have never seen it that white. So many colorful Tulip shells this time on Marco Island!

I loved them all. Would you mind sharing how you clean them?

I use 100% hydrogen peroxide to clean sand dollars (for 1 or 2 days). 100% Bleach is used to clean all shells I bring home for 1 or 2 days. If shells are fragile like angle wings, paper fig shells or paper nautillus shells then I mix with water 50/50 for a few hours and closely monitor to avoid damaging them in the solution. Once the shells are done bleaching then I rinse them with water, dry them and put a little bit of mineral oil to bring their colors back. A dental pick works great to remove barnacles off of the shells. Thanks for watching. Happy shelling:)

How do you clean your shells? I noticed there is a glaze on some of them... what is it?
@seashoreadventure
@seashoreadventure Жыл бұрын
Thank you for noticing that. The glazing is from a bit of mineral oil. I learned that to bring the shells color back. It works really good for scallops shells and Florida Fighting Conchs especially the orange ones. I discovered that some cool shells are found on a bay side. However when they have been sitting in the ocean mud for awhile they don't smell good so I give a bleach bath and afterwards I put some mineral oil to bring its color back.
