Super valuable information!! I love the simplicity of these lessons. Also something that might help somebody, it doesn't matter what brush you are using, these principles of light and shadow shapes and colors still apply. So if painting using only a hard round brush with no opacity helps you to more clearly see the shapes between the light and shadow family, do that. I have had trouble in the past with using fancy brushes at the beginning because I just randomly made strokes, and lost the clarity. So using super clear and simple brushes at the start helped me understand better what I was doing. Then when you get the fundamentals, you can use the fancier brushes. Thanks Marco for being the best teacher!

12:33 oh my god this is exactly what was i was breaking my brain over today. my highlights weren't "popping" for whatever reason. turns out it wasn't the highlights at all but the area surrounding them that needed a subtle color shift! thanks so much :D

It reminds me of your lesson, when you talk about colors "talking" to each other. It is like colors "want" to "talk" to the light and go closer to it.

This simplifies what i've been trying to get a mental grasp of for awhile now!! + Huge thanks for the output in resources like this, I've probably seen every video on your channel at this point + paid for a few guides and they've been very effective. I also bought the latest book of yours with the plan of paying it forward to a local small town library once I feel i've truly retained all of the information from it.

0:30 hang on...I'm already lost...😅 In all seriousness, this is fantastic! Bravo. Question: what if your light and object are complimentary colors? In this instance, what if the light was more green or cyan?
@Nakhab

Cyan light will make red object appear pink-ish. Hue shifts look like curve on color wheel. Same general rule applies for green light.

Hi Marco! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! I regularly watch your videos on light and shadow coloring, since I consider them a valuable source for learning the very basics of coloring, both in digital and in traditional painting. I have some questions to ask though: Is there any way to know the exact percentage in which a local (or base) color is mixed with the light color according to its brightness, distance, saturation, falloff, and other factors? Also, do you always select a color just by picking it on the color wheel and choosing by eye, or you also use other and more precise digital tools to "calculate" it (such as blending modes, blending options, filters, transparency, fill, etc...)? And lastly, did you make or will you ever make a video on how to simulate a sub-surface scattering effect on translucent objects? I would really like to watch it! Thanks again for your lessons! I'm considering to buy one of your courses or books. Best regards!

"Hello, I'm a beginner who has recently started learning about painting and coloring. I'm very curious about the key points or techniques to pay attention to when it comes to 'color hiding(Color hiding is a technique where subtle or hidden colors are blended into the main colors to create depth and richness in the artwork.).' I've watched many tutorials, and the people in them seem to apply this coloring technique quite casually. Some of the 'color hiding' looks very pleasing, but more often, the artworks give me a sense of being dazzling and strangely unsettling."

11:02 i have a question. I've seen his other video where in the same cool light+red local color scenario the local color gets desaturated as it travels through the 'gray zone'. In this case it seems like it's not getting desaturated as much. Is it due to the light intensity?
