🎸ABOUT THIS LESSON
With so many different combinations, it's not a surprise if many beginners prefer to keep the fingerpicking technique away for when they get better at playing guitar.
And it makes sense because, to be honest, fingerstyle guitar can be overwhelming!
The truth is, there is a way to get started with the fingerstyle technique that is simple and effective. It involves three things:
Simple chords (so we don't think about the left-hand too much).
Limited strings (so we always pluck the same set of strings).
Diversified patterns (so we develop a more proficient technique).
In this video, we will take a look at four fingerstyle categories. Each one will tackle your right-hand technique in a slightly different way.
Enjoy the lesson!

🎸FAQs:
Are you a full-time KZbinr?
Yes, I am on KZbin as Marco Cirillo, and I promote my videos on BlitzGuitar.com. All the courses I post online are available on my Patreon page bit.ly/2rMAPYG.
How long have you been playing guitar?
I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old, so it has been more than 20 years. I have always loved fingerpicking guitar, so this is why all my tutorials focus on this topic.
Why are you on Patreon?
Patreon is great! It allows creators to make money doing what they love. On Patreon, I can share my guitar lessons with my Patrons and get paid for them. As a creator, I feel like Patreon really made a massive difference in the way I share my content :)
Do you do concerts?
I used to do a lot of gigs in the past. London is a great place to play music almost every day. When my KZbin channel started to grow, I decided to go all-in and try to help as many people as possible learning guitar. This goal takes all the time I have available, so I am not doing any gig or concert.

Marco, please help! I love your tutorials, and they have been the bedrock of my progress in nearly 3 years of learning guitar. But I haven't found a lesson from you that explains the smooth and beautiful legato playing you manage to achieve with your right hand when playing scales and similar runs of single notes. I study your right hand very carefully and it looks like you are alternating your index and middle finger, and that you never pluck two sequential notes with the same finger, even when moving across to another string. I don't find this easy, but will definitely work at it if I've understood your technique correctly? Your advice would be hugely appreciated!

Hey marco I have a question for you What polish do you use for keeping gloss...? Because I have seen your guitars are so shiny n clean. Plzz Can I get answers
@VikingMan44
@VikingMan44 4 жыл бұрын
I can't answer for him, but an acoustic guitar with a gloss finish doesn't really need polish to retain it's glossy sheen. Just clean it with a microfiber cloth after use, or periodically when you change strings or something. It will be shiny for years until oxidation begins to rob the finish of it's gloss. But that will typically take quite a long time.

@@VikingMan44 I live where humidity goes from 90% to 12% and temperature 4°C to 50°C 😂... Does it matter?
@VikingMan44
@VikingMan44 4 жыл бұрын
Further. And this just occurred to me. When a guitar does lose it's sheen after it has aged significantly, the right thing to do might be to add some polish, but it's important you do that correctly. Add too much of a substance to the surface of the guitar, and it can inhibit it's vibration. The guitar can lose resonance/volume. The right way to handle that situation is to either accept the instrument's changing appearance with grace as a mark of it's age, enhancing it's beauty, or take it to a luthier who will sand the current finish back a bit and add another fine coat of finish on top. He/she then buffs it to the level of sheen you want. Me personally, I actually like the idea of my guitars wearing a little over time. They walk this journey of life with me, that should leave a mark. I'm generally meticulous about the care of my guitars. My main player at present has been my go to guitar for the last 5 years, and I have yet to put a scratch on her. I almost wish I could be less meticulous, because a little wear actually looks good on them IMO. And it doesn't generally negatively impact their sound and tone. Usually the opposite. I once knew a guy who's favorite guitar had been in a car crash. The right lower bout was all messed up. But it still sounded great, stayed in tune and he kept playing it.

@@VikingMan44 Oh thank you so much...Thats a huge information 😁
@VikingMan44
@VikingMan44 4 жыл бұрын
@@durgeshurade7456 The temperature and humidity changes aren't good for your guitar unfortunately. To the degree possible, protect it from those extremes. If it's not possible to protect the guitar, then that will shorten it's expected lifespan from decades to years. The neck angle will eventually change from string tension due to the wood deforming from low humidity stretches that will render it unplayable. The guitar could also potentially experience cracks in the wood. Changes in humidity and temperature cause the wood to expand and contract. Those expansions and contractions can eventually cause structural failure. But if you can't protect the guitar from those extremes, then don't worry about it. Play it as long as it is playable. Then when it dies, fix it if possible or replace it.

I’m not able to grow nails like yours, anything past 1mm gets broken at work. I tried the plastic and metal thumb picks they feels so strange. I end up picking with my finger tips and this is the only way I can get it done. It produces a different sound and I think it has a negative affect on how lightly and quietly I can play verse a nail picker.

Possibly a stupid question: why does this chord progression work over the open B and E strings? I guess we're in the key of E. The chords are power chords over the notes of the scale, so we don't have to deal with major/minor. In this context, act the B and E strings as a sort of inverted tonic power chord?
