Right after watching this, I went and experimented with different distances/psi on some old half painted models, and just having the freedom to experiment on a model I didn't care about made me actually be able to practice and learn more in 30 minutes than in several sessions of working on models I was too scared to mess up.

Such a hot tip on airbrush control....i have seen other pro's constantly pulling and releasing the paint as they air brush....i struggle with that and end up with pools and spiders and sometimes splatter if I dont keep the air flowing. I need to practice that technique of constantly pulling and releasing, back and forth with the finger. Thank you again!

Yeah when the pressure is too low the characteristics of the paint become the major factor and it's easy to mess up with dilution and more difficult to compensate in the small dimensions of our canvases. With and higher pressure the control moves to the hand and the positioning that's easier to control and adapt to every need!

Hi Marco. Just want to say "Thank You" for this video series. I've watched this series multiple times before jumping in and buying everything you recommended in this series (similar compressor, cleaning pots, mixing trays, thinners etc). The only deviation was that I got a cheap double action airbrush to learn with (Nasedal from AliExpress which I've found to be good (maybe I got lucky)). I'm already getting great results with blending and I'm loving the zenithal highlights with ink. Your trigger-finger technique is working out great. But what has been a great surprise is that I've already had about 10 to 15 paint sessions with the airbrush and your basic advise regarding cleaning between colours with airbrush cleaner and cleaning pot has meant that even as a beginner I've yet to have a single clogged airbrush and it's always ready to go when needed. Loving this tool and my only regret is not getting one sooner. Cheers.

Incredible explanation of the air brush trigger. I always knew the up and down was the air but I didn't know that the further back i pulled the wider the angle, I just thought more paint and increased chance for splatter.

@@MarcoFrisoniNJM also , when you mention about testing on plastic, it hit me like a truck, i alway test on a carton piece to check flow and dilution, no wonder, it complete go awry when apply to real plastic model . I found Ink and pure water base acrylic less user friendly than Lacquer and Acrylic Lacquer, Enamel , it quite challenge to get it right when you use to Lacquer paint (quite irony, since those 2 is the real friendly paint to user compare to more toxic Lacquer, Enamel paint). I definetly gonna to do some test with ink using "wiggle finger" technique that you demonstrate. Thank again Macro

@@hl1796 😁😁😁 You know that I'm a great supporter of cross media learning and we have to steal from traditional painters as much as possible, but yeah, in this particular case our "canvas" is so different that needs its own way and rules. Great respect my friend because I find lacquer and enamels very very very challenging!!! They behave in a very different way and I can totally understand your problems with the acrylic medium

Your airbrush video tutorials are really awesome and answer so many beginner questions, thanks for this! I have 2 questions which seem to be handled differently by different painters. Is it necessary to wear a filter mask and and have a spray booth - especially when airbrushing for example in the basement?

Thanks a million to you! It all depends on how you use your airbrush and on your level of experience. Beginners tend to be heavy on the trigger and make a dusty mess all around, similar situation if you work on very large models or armies, priming and spraying dozens of medels each time in quick heavy passes; in these cases a respirator is mandatory and a spray booth can be a cool gadget to keep a tiny room without a good ventilation clean. Experience makes you more and more precise and if you work on single models or little units like I do there's basically no overspray/dust/stuff floating around! You can see in my videos that except for when I'm priming I don't produce any overspray on the table, even when I'm really close to it; all the paint sprayed is only on the model!

Hmm, so now I know....I was fearful of higher pressure that is because I am so close to the model. I will have to practice backing off a bit and upping the pressure, I like that much better.

@@MarcoFrisoniNJM man I learned so much from you already and found out, that I m not doing much wrong, I was worrying too much and painting too little :p the paint dillution is the best example. I was trying around so much, to find the perfect dillution, until I saw one of your videos on that topic and it really just clicked. There is no perfect dillution, I make it, how I need it to be. It really took so much stress away from me, trying to find that "milky consistence" and I was painting more freely. And this trigger trick: I saw it recently on Miniac, too but he didn't really explain, why he did this, but when I saw it here, it immediately made sense, because you explained why, so I tried it out and voila: it works awesomely! I went from hating to have to learn how to airbrush, to just loving it. :)

Painting is more a flowing and organic experience that needs to be personal and shaped around yourself to be really enjoyable and effective... Lol this sounds more hippie than indended 😂
