I decided to record this solo without struggling to replicate the record sound which basically was a single amp and a phaser.
I opted for my stock preset which replicates a live rig sound, hope you don't mind.
As usual no post EQ or overdubs...simpler than ever.
I used my own preset for AmpliTube (soon to be revealed on the complete review and shared if you like).
Guitar used is my Ferrari Red Special.

One thing I've noticed and am enjoying about your videos is you're not in a rush when playing. Both you and Brian May are very laid back players, as if you have all the time in the world to get it done. Coming from a metal background where everyone is playing at 100%, this is really nice to see. I believe Brian uses relatively light strings and has a very gentle touch, would you say you're similar?

Thanks a lot, glad you spotted that. Brian used really light gauge back in Queen days, in fact I use 008-038 gauge. About the touch, yes...most of the time is quite light but not always. For example when doing some solo parts, especially with "out of phase" configuration, it's good to give an extra attack to the strings. Because using a coin for a pick it's quite different, it's so sensitive and expressive. Then you have to be gentle to achieve clean tones and harder if you want more crunch.

Very versatile! Do you also use a coin, if so, a sixpence like Dr May? I've used steel picks before but prefer the attack of Dunlop nylons or the Fender mediums, depending on the purpose.

Good job. I was curious about what you would do for the sound of the pick slides near the end. I forget the exact technical explanation, but in the studio recording, it's not something Brian did. I think he said that he improvised the first take, and then he liked the idea of little breaks near the end, so he punched-in another take doing that. The little pick slide sounds in between those breaks are actually an unrelated sound left over from the first take recording. That sound was an accident, but he liked it and kept it.
