@@sucrino No corporate product is perfect, and I never claimed that it was. Don’t twist my words. It’s as close to perfect as far as triple A platformers get though. The only other one rivaling the new Sonic game’s level of quality is Astro Bot and probably whatever Nintendo’s doing (minus Pokemon), as far as I’m aware. I’m sure the genre still has room to innovate even further as technology advances, but as of right now there’s not a doubt in my mind that Sonic X Shadow Generations is a certified must buy 9.7/10 experience for any PS5 owner. I firmly stand by that opinion. It’s one thing when you’re watching the trailers, but when you actually sit down and play it…oh man. There’s nothing else like a good Sonic game; dopamine central. Idk exactly how the other platforms compare besides the switch version having surprisingly good performance. I’ll wait for Digital Foundry to thoroughly explain all the minor performance differences assuming there are any. But yeah, the PlayStation 5 version is *peak gaming* if you like platformers and/or high speed action games with an insanely high skill ceiling once you unlock hard mode.

@@sucrino I will admit that I’m probably a bit biased since I personally prefer games that are like this. However, if you also love the equation: Super Mario 3D World/Bowser’s Fury + Spider-Man PS5 + Tony Hawk Pro Skater + Dragon Ball Sparking Zero = Sonic X Shadow Generations, then you’ll most likely end up feeling the way I do while playing it; awesome. The best part is that this game never gets boring for people like me because you can always discover new ways to shave off second off of your times to earn that sweet dopamine rush and various in game rewards. As usual, speed running is entirely optional for casual players but it is the way I would recommend playing this game if you’re any bit the overambitious perfectionist that I am.😅

This is a great first game to the series for a new player, which is ironic considering it's supposed to be a game that harkens back to older games in the series. It's relatively short, has great gameplay, and amazing music. And you get to experience 2D gameplay, and modern 3D boost-style gameplay.

Agree with the comments, this is a great Sonic game for beginners, though it does heavily rely on nostalgia fanservice. Every level in Generations is each taken from a different game in Sonic's past. It was intended as an anniversary celebration game, hence why there isn't much story, just references to the franchise history. That stuff might be lost on you, but the gameplay is incredible

The original on ps3 was one of my first sonic game with unleashed and Rush adventure on ds. While I couldn't go very far in unleashed at the time, I played through Generations and loved it even tho I knew almost nothing about the story of the franchise. I'm glad you caught on to Super Sonic Racing being a remix and went back to listen to the original. It's sounds like you're really vibing with the Sonic R OST. I feel you'll listen to the whole thing eventually, still would like to mention Back in Time is my personal favorite of that game. Hope you enjoy when you eventually hear it. Also Can You Feel the Sunshine got an official remix relatively recently, it's just a little hidden. It can be found in Team Sonic Racing as the music for the gacha machine menu to get new car parts. This game was originally released in 2011 (without Shadow's involvement), and was a celebration of the past games. Each level is from one of the previous titles, in chronological order. SEGA held online polls to determine the fans' fav level from each gane without tell us why, and the winners of those polls were the levels that were included! This was also the first time in YEARS that we saw classic sonic, it was so exciting at the time!

The main thing about Sonic games is that they rely on your reaction times and muscle memory. You have to be very familiar with the stage to reach A or even S rank (for Modern Sonic anyway, Classic seems to have a more generous scoring system). Once you're familiar with the stage, playing it the second time could be even more fun than the first time because you know what's gonna happen next and by extension, you know how to avoid the obstacles, which means you keep more of your momentum.

The fact that Green Hill Zone was created in 1991, Sonic Generations remade it in 2011, the Sonic franchise has been through some REALLY rough spots, and Green Hill Zone is still amazingly fun in 2024... it's not even nostalgiabait, it just stands the test of time. You're about to go down a rabbit hole of fun, the Sonic Boom cartoon is outrageously funny, Sonic Frontiers is a game that adds the best parts of BotW, and the upcoming Sonic 3 movie is based on the legendary game Sonic Adventure 2, just to name a few of the heavy hitters

I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but you're over-relying on the boost with Modern Sonic's levels. I get you wanna go fast all the time, and I can appreciate that, but there *is* a time when precision helps a lot more than wild speed in whatever direction you're facing. Boost is generally best used for straight-aways and getting to places a homing attack won't reach. Might fall off Sky Sanctuary a bit less and keep up the tempo a bit better, that way

Funfact: Perfect Chaos’ music is a reverse of how the schtick goes with later Sonic final bosses. You get the main vocal theme first, and then the ominous monster music last. This is the only time one of these finales would order it that way. Some fans have even made mods for Sonic Adventure to flip that order to fit the more traditional rising action feel of the climaxes with the vocals(Or in some cases, main theme instrumentals) coming in to hype you up near the end.

Also you don't know it, but a lot of iconic moments in this game are remakes of iconic moments in the original versions of these stages. Example: Sonic running down the building in Speed highway camera in his face. That happens in the original game. It's from Sonic Adventure, the first mainsteam 3D Sonic game. Example 2: Sonic Adventure 2 we got the stage City Escape and you start off snowboarding down the streets, hit a trolley cart, at some point you run down the building and get chased by a giant crazy truck. They remake all those moments in this version of the stage too, especially for Modern Sonic. And the last 2 stages almost feel like playing the original games themselves because those games being referenced were so recent that Generations wasn't that different from them. In fact, those last 2 games before Generations also had the BOOST which prior 3D Sonic games did not.

So a little fun fact about the intro theme song for sonic, they paired it with Hall of the Mountain King for the intro to the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon back in the 90's. Arguably my first exposure to true classical music when I was 5 or 6. Blew my mind when I got to 6th grade and heard the mountain king on its own when I tried to do band lol.

Love to see you're enjoying the game, like others said, Gens is a great introduction to the series Now, the thing about Sonic games is that they're made with replay value in mind; You are meant to get hit a lot your first time and then come back to memorize and master the stage Also, by rule of thumb the higher routes of the levels are usually faster but more difficult to stay on, while the lower routes are easier but filled with a lot of things that waste your time, like switches or thight platforming sections

Essentially, each level is taken from one game in Sonic's history, you have levels for the first three games (Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3/& Knuckles), then the early 2000s games (Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes) and then the late 2000s games (Sonic 06, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors).

Some tips for Sonic gaming. Higher routes are faster but harder to stay on. Middle routes are in between and a bit more platforming based and lower routes are very slow and focused on platforming. The game also demands you pay attention and not just hold right, thus when in parts where you’re just doing that, they’re setting you up for a trap. Either spikes, or something to jump over. It’s not just about going fast. In order to be able to go fast and get better times, you gotta pay attention to the rules of how the level design works. Once you know that stuff, Sonic becomes easy. The game gives you plenty of opportunities to climb to the top again and then run on the top route, so keep out for platforms leading upwards.

3:09:10 for some context, Sonic 06 is officially named "Sonic The Hedgehog", named after the very first game as it was meant to be the next generation for the franchise... due to this naming choice, fans have given it the name "Sonic 06" and in my opinion has one of the best soundtracks the reason why chat was saying it was a bad game is because the development team was cut in half with the other half working on Sonic and The Secret Rings, and then Sega rushed the remaining developers in Sonic Team with Sonic 06 for a holiday release in 2006 causing it to release as a very broken and buggy game it also had a code name, Sonic Next Gen the game is getting a fanmade remake that fixes the game up, known as Project 2006

The main Sonic cast is divided into four teams, Team Sonic, Team Rose, Team Dark and Team Chaotix. Team Sonic is made up of Sonic (Fastest hedgehog in the world), Tails (Boy genius) and Knuckles (Guardian of the Master Emerald). Team Rose is made up of Amy (Sonic's girl), Cream (A young rabbit girl) and Big (A large purple cat). Team Dark is made up of Shadow (The ultimate lifeform, not actually a hedgehog), Rouge (The bat girl, she's also a spy) and Omega (One of Eggman's discarded robots). Team Chaotix is made up of Espio (The pink guy, he's a ninja), Charmy (The bee) and Vector (The rapper croc). Finally there's Blaze and Silver, who don't belong to any specific team but sometimes help Sonic, Blaze is the light purple cat and she comes from an alternate dimension, Silver is a grey hedgehog who has psychic powers who comes from the future.

The channel Outside Xtra did a fun video of trying to determine how fast Sonic can really run. And the number is way higher than you'd think, like around Mach 6 or higher. The part in Escape from the City where they say "Rolling around at the Speed of Sound" is basically talking about him at a leisurely jog. Shadow can match his speed but that might be due to his jet shoes. And only with the Chaos Emerald can he outrun Sonic I believe. It's ba fin video to check out.

Hello Marco! Please please please take my advice! I am one of Sonic CD's biggest fans and I highly recommend that you listen to the original JPN/EU Sonic CD OST. I love that entire game. The premise is that there are 7 zones in total but each Zone has a Past, Present, Good Future, and Bad Future track that take main motifs from the "Present" track and elevate them on the other 3. Then, those other 3 born from the "Present" track take motifs from the other 3 tracks to create a timeline of sorts for each song and it's very cool! Also, the reason I specify JPN/EU is because those songs are typically more popular with the Sonic fanbase, but ALSO because the SEGA Sound Team was able to actually make more interesting music since Sonic CD was a CD-insert game. This means there was a lot of samples from popular Western bands/artists/groups and I think you would find it very interesting! ...I wish the people in the chat had explained the Shadow rival fight better. When you collect the power ups and go into the meteor smash phase, you don't have to jump into the meteors. The boost is forced on you, and you just need to focus on, quite literally, running a whole train's worth of boost energy on Shadow.

Hello, I'm a bit late finding your channel and your video reactions. The Metal Sonic bossfight's song is taken from the game, Sonic CD. Sonic CD has a unique mechanic which allows Sonic to travel through time and the level's song changes when Sonic is either in the past, present, bad future, or good future. The specific song that's remixed in this bossfight is called "Stardust Speedway (Bad Future)". But from the Japanese version of the game. When the game was brought over to the US, they changed the soundtrack for the American audience (Note: Except the past themes for the levels. Those were left alone.) [BTW You can also unlock the remix of the US version of Stardust Speedway (Bad Future) in Sonic Generations!] You were asking for song recommendations before, and I figured a fun video for you would be a comparison of the US and Japanese soundtracks of Sonic CD. As well as comparing the remixes of the songs from the different time eras. While most fans prefer the Japanese soundtrack, it'd be interesting to hear an outside perspective. The US version also has my favorite vocal Sonic theme, "Sonic Boom". You also seem to really enjoy "Can you feel the sunshine" and "Super Sonic Racing". Those tracks came from a Racing spinoff game called "Sonic R". All the tracks in that game have vocal themes by the same singer and composer. [One more thing: If you like Sonic Generations, another good gateway game into the franchise is the "Sonic Origins" Collection which contain the original classic games, 1,2, 3 & Knuckles, & of course, Sonic CD!] Sorry for the long message. So, the main difference between a Sonic game and say, a Mega Man or a Mario game… Mario is about memorizing the tracks, Mega Man is much the same. Sonic is more about improv and reaction time. You are moving so fast that sometimes (unless you are a long time player who has replayed the HELL out of the games) it’s hard to memorize things, so Sonic really test your reaction times and ability to adjust on the fly. That’s why, as a longtime fan, I’m obsessed with these game. No two playthroughs are the same.
