The composer of this particular track is Yukihiro Jindo, one of Falcom's pillars in terms of music. The Ys franchise is full of amazing music, I highly recommend listening to "Genesis Beyond the Beginning" from Ys Origin which is one the greatest Ys soundtracks out there

Dana quickly turned out to be one of my favorite characters from the series, aside from Adol. Her backstory, the alternative forms, her mood (and Brianna Knickerbocker voicing her) everything flows so well. And many songs from this soundtrack are still ingrained in my mind. That, and both Hummel and Ricotta doing their high five 😂

Words cannot express how much joy I have from you listening to and analyzing another Ys VIII song. As you and many others have said, the soundtracks for Ys VIII and other Falcom games are beyond outstanding, and I wish the series had more of a spotlight, given how extensive its history is in the video game world. For me, personally, Ys VIII was a video game experience that I will never forget. This and the very similar-sounding title screen track gave me this feeling like "I'm in for one of the most emotional video game experiences of my life, aren't I?" A thought which I have only had once before with the original Xenoblade Chronicles and its title screen music. I consider both to be my favorite games of all-time. Thank you once again for analyzing this track, Marco, and for all of your hard work these past many months. Your growth and your community forming is a testament to how far you've come, and how hard you're working to bring forth all of this wonderful music to others. Keep at it! We'll be with you the entire way.

YES MARCO FINALLY YOU REACHED UNPOPULAR GAME WITH AMAZING MUSIC. YS has many great OSTs like the Legend of Heroes and I love all of them! Ah, btw, the ending of this YS 8 series sounds more heartbreaking than the opening. Hope you can listen to their game soundtracks from The Legend of Heroes (Cold Steel), Code Vein, and God Eater, etc.

Adol never really breaks any hearts, cause while we can clearly see from body language and the dialogue the girls are falling for him, the vast majority of them never actually confess and Adol almost never acknowledges it (in dialogue). Adol always leaves for new adventures on good terms, promising to visit again at some point.

Ys 8 was the beginning of my love for the Ys series. After finishing it, I wound up playing the remaining games in for the most part release order. However, feel free to do some research to decide which other Ys games you want to play. The best thing about Ys games is that except for Ys 1 & 2 and Origins, the games are stand-alone in terms of story. They do sprinkle in references/cameos from previous games but that is about it.

Lacrimosa of Dana, ah yes, i remember the first time i played through the Y's VIII. finally getting through to the end and it made me tear up. For me, it seems to represent life in its never ending cycle, the life that encompasses all Just, one same life seen in different eyes, emotional states, aspects of it. And then in one version of it from focusing on life in a grand scale, it suddenly focuses on just one person each. Suddenly it's personal, miniscule. Then suddenly it's just Dana, you start to process her thoughts, emotions, her duty, her vulnerabilities, both her power and helplessness, what you want to happen vs what needs to happen. This piece and its variants is a roller coaster of emotions but it always ends with one thing for me, a bittersweet and wholly grateful "Thank you" .

The soundtrack to Ys VIII is just spectacular. It's the only video game soundtrack I even went out of my way to purchase on vinyl. So many of the tracks are really well-composed and memorable, spanning a wide range of genres and styles, from the classically inspired main theme to the obviously Heavy Metal-inspired "Gens D'Armes"

Ys series are half a year older then Final Fantasy, by the way. Also - have you heard Ys Origins and Ys Seven opening/main themes? Those games can look a bit outdated (and mechanics are old), but they are still really good. Ys Chronicles music was amazing too - it's modern sound of old MIDI melodies brought so many nostalgia. And the theme of Godesses (who are just mortals from very advanced civilisation, not really godlike) - hits much harder too, especially considering through what Adol (and we as players) came through to found all the notes for that melody, for it to be played again and fix everything.

They're a great showcase of the evolution of sound hardware and music in games from the original Japanese PC-88, PC-98, Sharp X1, and Fujitsu FM-7 computers in 1987 to the first CD games console, the TurboGrafx-CD in 1989 using Redbook audio for the music, all the way to the modern releases on Sony PSP and Windows PC with Ys 1&2 Chronicles

Ys will be a major gateway into Falcom's other music, especially the Legend of Heroes: Trails series. A lot of great gems, especially in the Trails in the Sky trilogy. You are in for a wild ride if you get into those. Also, there are two versions to the main Lacrimosa theme in this game. The other version doesn't have the same explosive elements as this version and is more somber.

I first found out about the Ys series back in 2007 or 2008 when I downloaded Ys Book 1 and 2 for the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console back in the day. Most people know of Squaresoft for Final Fantasy, Enix for Dragon Quest, Nintendo for Legend of Zelda, a fair few would know SEGA for Phantasy Star but Falcom with Ys series have been around almost as far back as that same time period yet their JRPGs never get mentioned by most gamers and only a few JRPG fans know of how important that series is for Japanese Games. I have got Ys 8 on the PS Vita so I know how epic that opening theme is.

I still vividly remember running around in the night collecting flowers while being chased by a pack of dinosaurs and avoiding rocks being hurled by gorillas as Night Survivor plays in the background. Falcom games are famous for having amazing music. Hope to see more videos covering it. Not to sound like a shill but since we are on the topic of Falcom games... I believe that there's a game that gets unfairly overlooked - Tokyo Xanadu. It's not nearly as talked about as their Trails and Ys series. And of course the music is excellent, as you might expect. Moreover, it often goes on sale for around $12, which is a total steal.

The Ys games are amazing, glad you picked them up! If you're enjoying them I'd also like to Recomend the developer, Nihon Falcom's, other primary series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails (Also known as Kiseki). It's a turn based JRPG series, unlike Ys which is an action RPG, so it's a bit longer but the worldbuilding, music on par with the amazingness that is the Ys soundtracks, and character writing make it worth the length in my opinion.

Same. Though honestly story is really kinda weak and basic for most part in Ys. There's only 2 that really stand out. One is Ys VIII... but mostly the story centered around Dana. The other one is Ys Origin's 3rd character's story. For all the other games I think it's kinda passable or meh. Well, I do think Ys 1 & 2 have potential for a really great story, but the medium was kinda restricting. Perhaps if they receive a full blown modern remake I guess.

I'd love to see you listen to tracks and compare something like Eldam Mountains from the original Ys 3 soundtrack against "Steeling the Will to Fight" from Oath in Felghana. Complete side note, but maybe a few tracks from Grime and Alex Roe. "Cenotaph City" and the follow up track "The Final Performance" are fantastic, but most of the soundtrack is very well done.

Slight spoilers context: this plays in a ruined version of the somniel that used to serve as a safe haven for the player unit and now left in ruins as each platform becomes a hazard for the player if you don't get out in time. Including attacks that can and WILL one hit kill any unit in its path.

I will pass on the wisdom given to me years ago: There are no bad Ys music tracks...only ones that are less awesome than the others.

i'm sorry if its a bit rude, but can check this one as well? it was from Indonesia, and he put a bunch of traditional instrument like "Angklung" that it feels mythically horror it was a manga based on Balinese folklore, and Rangda's Hindi folklore as well the language it uses was a traditional Balinese language, so it feels like a chanting kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6jFoIuko8mAfpI
