1:08:54 There are two traditional plucked instruments used in this concert- the pipa and the sanxian. The sanxian (三弦) is the predecessor to the shamisen/sanweixian/三味线. The sanxian and the shamisen are both trapezoid-ish, but you can tell the sanxian apart by its signature snakeskin. The pipa is the one that looks kind of like a lute. The Either uses erhu+pipa and the other group uses erhu,pipa,sanxian, dizi, and guzheng. The other similar instrument you might've seen in Genshin is the ruan, which has a completely circular body and one hole on each side.

2:00:51 they're all Ægir, which are the race related to the ocean. Typically, ægir don't appear with as many animal-like features as other arknights operators do. Some other ægir operators (for examples) are the Abyssal Hunters (Skadi, Specter, Gladiia, and Adreanna), Mizuki, and Thorns. Another important thing to keep in mind is that these 4 characters are NPCs, not playable operators. They form a band called Alive Until Sunset (abbreviated AUS), which is the most popular metal band in the world of Arknights. One of the only artists more popular than them is Emperor, the penguin who rapped earlier.

As a matter of fact, AUS are not only Ægir, but a very special kind of being in general. They are Feranmuts, which makes them basically on the same level as Nian, Ling, Dusk and Congyue, who are fragments of Sui.

About the whole bagpipe question in the second track, I believe they're actually uillean pipes (pronounced ill-in) which are an Irish instrument, which makes sense given that the story in which that song is played is set in the Arknights equivalent of Ireland, called Tara.

If you ever check out the Arknights 3D PV, I would recommend checking out Stultifera Navis Event Teaser, because for the 3D PV Arknights has a habit of making completely different verses for their songs to match the tone of the animation. And for Stultifera Navis Event Teaser at the end there is a twisted verse of Awakening that has a much more somber tone and even eerie feel.

The interesting thing, though, is this band uses electric instruments, so the instrument that sounded like a guitar throughout the song was actually the electric erhu being played like a guitar Edit: it's the same band that plays Random Randomly and DayDayDream

I usually like when they try to rearrange and perform instrumental compositions in a slightly different way. Still ends up juicy. But when it comes to songs with vocals, if they couldn't bring original vocalist - then it's a "miss" or "ok" in most cases. Like how it was with Immutable, Lead Seal and Radiant in this concert. Without original singer they just can't hit it right. This is what you get when working with creative people all over the globe. It really hard to bring everyone to one place at the time. Though, I remember when a man nailed a song with his "YES, I'M ON FIRE" on 2021 concert, even though he wasn't original vocalist. It was different, but still damn good. Thanks for this stream, Marco (There are still many bangers to take in 😅)

59:52 the "ghostly singing" is supposed to be similar to the sounds a whale would make if it were singing, hence the high pitch and the weird distortion. You are right, though, about there being an "unholy" aspect to it, but for me to get into that I would have to spoil multiple events and backstories. The "Under Tides" storyline has most of the information you'd need.

Bit of info on the dialogue bits of fluff that happen before the headliner songs. Dreamland - The cast largely discuss Nian's script, with Pramanix mentioning how Nian basically took an "adult fairy tale" and made it for younger audiences, aka Disney. Jiang Hu - This one is largely more about the character's lores, with Mr. Nothing being a typically merchant man buttering up the rich lady Swire, followed by Nian and Dusk being siblings and their usual antics. Quadrant Breaker - Probably the most skippable one since they just largely discuss the Cyberpunk theme and retro themes associated with it. Also THRM-EX blows up. Phenominal Agents - A dialogue mostly about being mis-casted (Reed and Mudrock swap roles based off what they initially have in the dialogue and in the video) and about looking to the professionals for assistance and advice, with Phantom as the pro theater kid of the group being the mentor.

Since you were touching on the difference between studio and live performances, I also wanted to point out that for a lot of the songs sung in English, particularly those after the Dreamland segment, the original artist was not the one doing the performance. Obviously, the pandemic, scheduling, and financial feasibility all played into who they chose to perform certain songs, so I do understand how things got here. There were definitely performances I thought really held up in spite of this, like "Across the Wind," but I do think "Loyal to the Beat" and "Radiant" in particular suffered heavily for it. Radiant really sticks out to me, because the original singer for that song also did what is probably my single favorite character theme in all of Arknights, "Eternal Flame" so the difference in vocal performance between her and who they hired for the concert is especially striking.

Unfortunate fact about Quadrant Breaker the only AS exclusive music without an animation bcs the budget was used for the Laser performance but due to the danger it has to the camera all the laser has to be avoided and since there's no real audiens you cant really enjoy it

oh wow why did I had this tab still open^^ maybe to rewatch it/the concert again was defenitely a fund stream even though it hurt always a little bit to see you skipping the 4 little skits especially skipping them took almost more time then just letting them run for the few seconds^^ iirc someone already explained that this concert was actually supposed to be a "movie festival" held by an arknights character and the 4 special songs/animations were menat to represent her 4 movies and the skits were part of explaining what they were about though given what you focus on in your reactions I guess it would have made no difference for it in itself well anyway have to rewatch it again sometime and hopefully see interested again when the next concert (from this april) will be made public (in summer I think) anyway have a nice day Olli

Thank you for doing this video and spreading the Arknights greatness! I love this game even more than Genshin. It's obviously not as flashy or exciting, but it's more challenging and just as emotionally charged (when you take the considerable time to read the story). It wouldn't be fair to compare their music and say one is better than the other. Both have mazing soundtracks, but I think Arknights is definitely more varied. There's something for everyone in here.
