This was long overdue! I am tying up some loose ends from the popular JBC soldering station video. The new design is simpler, cheaper, more efficient and equally powerful. I have learnt a lot about solid state relays in this project and I hope you will too.

If you are not sure whether you should build this, take a look at dangerousprototypes.com/forum/... That is a well tested, often built and much more universal soldering iron controller than mine.

When you do homebrew PCBs, it helps to put a small (0.5mm) hole in the through-hole pads - makes it much easier to hand-drill as the holes act as centering marks and help to guide the drill to the centre

Very nice! JBC tips are awesome, when drived properly it behaves as if it had unlimited thermal mass; and that turns soldering to joy. I'm using C245 tips with my DC powered DIY controller.

I've the same hoarding problem, that's why i havent made videos yet, my projects always look like crap, i've also loved the sounds from dungen keepers, one of my fovourite games!
