25:40 Why won't you use a cheap magnetic absolute sensor (something like an as5600). Absolute positioning would delete the need for homing and then just do your constant velocity moves. Just a bang bang controller would probably be enough

Do have a wiring diagram available for the project. I am currently trying to replicate what you have done for a gantry robot. Since in the past I have only worked with 24 V, I am a little bit insecure about the 220 V AC. Also, what kind of filter and fuse do you use?

Why don’t you use an as5600 magnetic encoder for positioning. They’re less than $5 and super accurate.

The last technology connections video about pinball incidentally shows spring-loaded contacts used for the machine logic. You said that you didn't want lasercut springs, but what about regular coil springs instead?

Thinking of a completely different approach:- See the gold spring contacts on the Keithley 480 Picoammeter at 27:20 of Dave Jones video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHXGnWNjqZyWm7s Shouldn't be too hard to find some suitable springy material, and get it gold plated, then operate the springs by plastic rods driven remotely by small cheap solenoids. ?

This is great video! I've been using Monport Laser for several months now, and I've been amazed by its versatility. While MOPA Fiber Laser Engravers can handle a range of tasks like welding, cutting, cleaning, and coloring, Monport Laser takes it a step further. With Monport Laser, I've been able to tackle not just engraving, but also precise milling tasks with ease. Its intuitive interface and robust performance make it a standout choice for various applications. Whether you're working on intricate designs or heavy-duty projects, Monport Laser delivers exceptional results every time.

Very nice work. My only comment is that 30% Z load at idle isn't really that bad. You don't want it fully balanced, and having the weight of the Z-axis help in plunging loads is helpful.

Neat stuff. I think all cars have switched to clock spring style connections to the steering wheel. What about a motorized rack to engage the connectors? That way they wouldn't drag and they wouldn't connect until positioned. I agree with other here that a pair of contacts at the end of travel for homing would be better. Or if you go with lifting the wipers like I mentioned you could use something like pogo pins for the end indication.

On the Prusa slicer comment: if you make an extremely small cut in your model you can trick the slicer into going back further. If you do every other you can get a lattice connection.

Try soldering reed contacts radialy and a glue a piece of magnet on cursor then fly it over desired reed contact with the steper ... no heat there no oxidation, maybe is what you need!? (you can use existing pcb if you find reed's small enough)

Slip rings in steering wheels are basically not a thing anymore, they use a winding spring flex pcb cable to allow for ~3-5 turns in each direction. Before airbags were a thing that was different of course. German word is: Wickelfeder Spiralkabel btw.

Other idea: Put magnet on that wiper and it will move over small levers that will close contacts. Wiper can be on threaded stud and move linearly. Levers must be plastic with small metal part to attract magnet. With smart mechanism you can even omit unintended connections and only lower magnet over the required contacts.

Maybe don't use rotary switches, but linear ones and use off the shelf carbon brushes with spring brush holders? Might need some maintenance but seems a more sensible design for DIY?

You could deal with the potential of shorting intermediate configurations while turning if you made one switch that turned all of the front panel connections on and off at once. A modified version of your rotary switch, with individual input and output pads, then a stepper motor with a multiple-wiper fixture on it, to open or close all of the front panel contacts at once...
