You have the most awesome boardgame backdrop ever. It looks like all the games were built for your shelf and not the other way around

bought this game last week! cant wait to play it. GMT games and the COIN system is so unique and exciting I cant wait to see what else comes out using it. Thanks for the review Marco.

Curse you, Marco, you've cost me so much money!

A glowing review... I’ll look at this one again but I was quite put off initially by the squirrelly bot flowcharts. This isn’t the only GMT title that suffers from this issue, imo. GMT really should send its designers to a classic Flowcharting 101 class.

Nice review, got this for the P500 and have not set it up yet, perhaps this Sunday we will finally check this out. Wonder if this system could be applied to the Peninsular War now that they have a combat system for COIN.

Nice review! Looking forward to one of my friends buying the game as I have already spent to much money on games. And now for a request. I would love to get your opinion on Pax Pamir from Sierra Madre Games. Pleeeease?

I'm still iffy on the co-in series. I usually play solo, does this or any co-in game have, at least, good/fun playability? should I look elsewhere?
@rockhopper018 жыл бұрын
All the COIN games feature AI "bots" for each faction. They can fill in for lack of players, and can provide fairly tough challenges. You can even play all four bots against each other, which sometimes provides an interesting narrative.
@Frigenguy18 жыл бұрын
+rockhopper01 I heard that the ai can be tedious and takes from the fun. I've never played one so I'm wondering if playing solo against 3 bots is worth it.
@rockhopper018 жыл бұрын
The use of the bots is certainly highly procedural, some enjoy that, some don't. Personally, I have no problem with procedural games when playing solo, as I take my time as it is. I can certainly see how highly procedural games can be tedious when playing multiplayer. When playing with other folks, I prefer faster moving games so everyone's not just sitting around following flowcharts. I guess my answer is... it really depends on your tolerance for working through flow charts.

+rockhopper01 once you get used to the bots it becomes fairly easy to quickly resolve their actions

How do you compare this game to Washington's War ? Any chance to review this one ?
@marcowargamer7 жыл бұрын
the only similaritiy is in the theme; mechanically they are completely different.
@numero6jbs7 жыл бұрын
Any personal favorite between those two ?

Marco, should I get this or Pendragon?
@GhostKingGeorge6 жыл бұрын
I'm asking myself the same thing. Might get both.
@tommessig20606 жыл бұрын
Yeah I ended up with both of them.

Tom Messig so which one should I go for first? Lol
@tommessig20606 жыл бұрын
good question, i haven't played either so i don't know. i'd say pendragon based on the theme alone as well as the production quality although both are really nice.
@GhostKingGeorge6 жыл бұрын
Tom Messig I'll just get both. Lol. I scored a copy of liberty or death for $35. First edition.... so I know the rules have an extensive errata.... hopefully you get to play yours soon.

I like this game, but i don't like the combat system, much less elegant of Fire in the Lake. You lost a lot of time to calculate the modifiers and this slowing down the game. For me FitL remain the best of COIN series (Istill have to play Falling Sky).

they keep getting better - each outodes the others, and becomes the best up to that point.

@@marcowargamer thanks! So in your opinion which one is best in terms of game play? Pendragon? Thanks for all your reviews

Only inhibitor for me are those ghastly bot flowcharty player aid things. There’s an art and intended structure to flowcharting one learns in their first basic computer class that’s simply missing here. Very squirrely and a confusing mess here imo.
