Great interview! I visited Kim and Gina at Wildcat Hil in 2015. They gave me a fantastic tour, let me take photos everywhere including Edward's darkroom. I thought my grandmother may have known Edward, so Kim let me look through the guestbook. Grandma never signed it but Kim let me sign in!

Hi Mark: I am glad that you shot this video in black and white, included old video and captured this period in Weston's life and our local California history. Classic. Fred

Love that you inc. the B/W idea 👍 What a lovely video to stumble upon. Still blown away about the info of the pepper shot! Natural lighting, long exposure. I'm inspired to give that a try - well, at f22 anyhow 😁

Wow! That was juts amazing! I was watching at the episode right under my print from the original negative from Weston's Tina, which is in my living room. I think she did saw some of the episode too ;) I was in Carmel last year and never knew that was Weston's home just until weeks after I was there, I would love to take a look into Weston's dark room, but any way, I have juts seen it thanks to you.

How was the f/240 aperture made?

Very tiny pinhole

Curious how Edward implemented ƒ/240 given the precise placement of the Ilex 5 iris blades. (Assuming he was using the 14" commercial Ektar) Any thoughts?
@marcsilber7 жыл бұрын
yes Kim said he made his own "stops", so I'm assuming he used an older lens with removable stops instead of iris blades. I define what "stops" are on page -66 of Advancing Your Photography Handbook--took quite a bit of research to dig that up!
@LuisMiguelRangelE7 жыл бұрын
eyemweiss Could Weston just have used a pinhole?

Advancing Your Photography Excellent information on Westons' f240 how did he accomplish this is this on page 66 of AYP Book. I will purchase a copy soon

Just curious which f-stop, the f/240 would correspond to, in terms depth of field, on a full frame sensor - if anyone is able to figure that out?
@monktridge32684 жыл бұрын
On a 360mm lens, f/240 diameter is 1.5mm.

A funnel? What does that mean?
@monktridge32684 жыл бұрын
Weston used a tin funnel that he found as a backdrop. He balanced the pepper on the lip and let nature do the rest. Try it sometime instead of flat backdrop.

ah... Photoshop in the 1930s, '40s, '50s, '60s... called a darkroom. :)

I don't think it's really worth researching masters life and home to improve our photography! we should stop this! Please avoid talking about house blah blah. Although it's few minutes it really annoyed me and felt wasting my time. Rest of the video is good and thanks. Still i prefer tips from present master who is living and IN front of your lens talking live.
