Hi, I have an SRS and i have the same brake problem. I solve it with a massive clean of the rotor. I think that when we use only regen, we have a lot of depot (sorry i dont find the good word) on the rotor. This problem is gomming when a store the bike under the rain during a complete night. try to clean the disc may be that solve your problem. ride safe V

Shuddering brakes could be caused by dust/dirt in the buttons that hold on your floating rotor. When they get dirty, they don't allow the rotor to float so the pads don't make full contact. Shooting the buttons with brake cleaner might help! Amazing video as always :D
@Sprchkn
@Sprchkn Жыл бұрын
And if that doesn't work, if you can find a wooden dowel to jam in there and spin them to get the grit out and free them up, that should fix them. I rode my bike in all weather and had to do that every 11k or so (km). That eliminated the shudder until they hit min thickness and I had to replace them.
@barryk8969
@barryk8969 Жыл бұрын
The shudder is more than likely the brake rotor. Either has a spot that got hot or the rotor is warped.
@Sprchkn
@Sprchkn Жыл бұрын
@barryk8969 Possible, but they'd have to be rather poor quality rotors to warp unless they were bent by an impact. If the buttons are bound up that can cause a temporary warp until they're freed, the entire point of that brake carrier is to prevent warping.
@DanielMonteroElectraveler
@DanielMonteroElectraveler Жыл бұрын
@@SprchknI have a Zero SR/S with the same problem as Marc. I freed the buttons by doing what you proposed. The problem did not go away. So indeed, we are supposed to keep them clean, but I'm afraid it may be too late for me, the discs are already warped... I may need to swap them for better quality like brembo or ebc
@Sprchkn
@Sprchkn Жыл бұрын
@@DanielMonteroElectraveler That sucks, it worked on my bike, but it had Brembo rotors already. My rotors eventually had to be replaced around the 75k miles mark due to hitting the wear limit, it's sad that his Zero isn't anywhere close to that mileage.

Sadly, the brake discs on gen3 Zero bikes are notoriously warping just by looking at them. The not so floating mount might be the reason. Some people got theirs replaced under warranty but as you experienced, even later produced parts have the same flaw... It might be a good idea to look after replacing the OEM parts for better quality alternatives before entering the "real adventure world" though. Keep it up Marc, we enjoy what you share very much! ✌

Hi Marc, this is good advice. If the rotor (disc) is not warped (or has not been contaminated) and pads not contaminated, adjusting the caliper to rotor by applying the brake whilst caliper is loose enough to align with rotor is proper set up. I (have to) do it on motorx bikes because of the amount of movement the wheel and thereby the rotor has to deal with. If wheel axle and bushings are not worn or untrue, what has been suggested should help resolve the issue, copper grease suggestion also good.

All good advise and I will add when I get a brake pad kid it comes with a special grease that goes on the back of the pad because (internet) Brake grease ensures these parts can move freely when called upon. And therefore, the braking system can be relied upon to operate when it is applied. Additionally, brake grease prolongs the life of brakes and eliminates squealing noises and reduces vibration when the brakes are applied.

You can also try to clea the disc with something like brake, carburator, acetone or methyl-ethyl-ketone (MEK) solvent. Sometimes, a film can buiild up on the disc from oil fumes coming from the roads and causes the brake pads to vibrate. Also, you can put "anti-squeal" compound behind the brake pads. It will help to absorb some vibrations when you apply the brakes.

Lots of folks have made the good suggestion of cleaning the bobbins. I just checked mine and a Torx bit will fit in the bobbins. Get a bit in them one at a time and spin them with plenty of brake cleaner. so much the better if you have a drill on slow speed, but by hand will do. then clean the discs with brake cleaner all round both sides. Be sure to use the brakes hard for as long a time as possible, say going down hill with the re-gen off. Getting them hot will condition the surface, but if they are warped it will make things worse! That was an unbelievably terrible thing you did to the pads on the concrete!! Bad boy! it will ruin the surface and probably embed grit in them. They are supposed to bed in to mach the contours of the discs. Still loving the videos though. Toot toot.. 🙂

Nice roads. Tomtom is indeed sometimes giving issues, especially if you ask the max level of twisty roads, he's taking you in every small thing he can... I sometimes ended up following the main road in a dirt path like yours ^^ it also usually get me in super small street to cross city and villages instead of staying on the main road. When I have the time I tend to make trip ahead myself with few points to "force" him to pass where I want and avoid those issues. About your brakes, had similar issue on bike after a big mountain pass, only thing that solved it was change of rotor and pads (+ check of alignement of caliper). Brake judder... Slacken your right fork axle pinch bolts and calliper bolts. Bounce the forks up and down in a straight motion several times not using the brake as this will interfere with alignment. When done tighten the pinch bolts back up. Now tighten the calliper bolts up but not fully tight so each calliper can still moves slightly. Spin the front wheel and pull the brake on, repeat several times. The last time hold the brake lever on and tighten all the calliper bolts up. Check your bobbins are free and clean. Get a nut and bolt that goes through the bobbin/buttons hole. Put it in the hole and tighten the nut on the other side until it grips it, not squashes it but holds it. Now the bolt should move the bobbin so spin it and spray with brake cleaner while doing so, repeat for all of them. If they are stiff or stuck work them free and spray. Check headstock bearings for play, you might be reading headstock play as judder.

Get a disc brake cleaner, the gunk is always on the disc - not on the pads. Pads get contaminated from the dirty disc ;) If you clean the disc, the clean disc will clean the pads. Remember to bed the brakes after cleaning them - brake but do not stop, then let it cool before stopping :) If you have to stop on freshly cleaned brakes, don't stop on the brakes, release just before stopping and use your legs haha~ Why - brakepads need to evenly deposit their natural particles onto the discs for best and even efficiency. I've been using MucOff disc brake cleaner on all my two wheeled vehicles (i race mountain bikes) since ever. I do that after every cleaning because it can spray the dirt and oils onto the brakes. Works like a charm - spray on, wipe with a clean cotton cloth, done. Maybe you can stop by a bike shop to borrow theirs if you don't wanna carry it and throwing away is a waste, and by a bike shop I mean not only motorcycle garages but also mountain bike ones ;) Mountain bikers are a friendly bunch and we know how to get the most out of two wheels.

Riding an electric motorcycle has to be the weirdest thing considering one of the pleasures of riding is the sound of the engine and the revving and exhaust pops and so on. I hope I never get to this point in life...

Hallo marc.

LG CptHooch

Dear Mark ... on this video, I saw you were overspeeding .... You should know that in Bulgarie : a) you have a tolerance of 20 % with the speed limits ie 60 km/h in cities and villages ( but in reality even more !) and on the Highways 168 km/h !!! in Bulgaria, non fixed radars are only at the beginning, within or the exits of villages ! In between you can overspeed without any risk of speed tickets ! and it is the same on highways ! .... Smiles ! it is why from times to times car accidents are registered at more than 240 km/h on highways without speed tickets !

Zero living up to its name. I try x-ref parts. We know who also uses J Juan and it'd be interesting to if rotors are common dimension. Braking, Galfer, etc It's too bad they used such a small belt, H-D would still be too big I think.

Hi it’s possible is the Rotors (Discs) but they are Floating Rotors so it is possible the Floating parts that are sticking you might need to hit them with a rubber mallet then use a dry lubricant to allow them to float freely again but surely there is a motorcycle mechanic on here to explain it better. Awesome trip 😂🏍️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏍️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏍️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Re the brakes. Does the master cylinder have a bleed nipple and, if so, was it bled last time? Do you have floating disks (rotors)? If so, how "loose" are they? Which make of pads do you have?

Better to keep all charging points 'out in the weather' as sooner or later, old cars/failed electrics etc it is better to have a fire outside, accessible to emergency response, maybe lose a charging bay rather than take out a shopping centre completely?
@MarcTravels

Is it really more likely than a car catching fire?
@daveh1625
@daveh1625 Жыл бұрын
@@MarcTravels Maybe being outside, in high visibility is the way to sell more electricity and convince us to migrate to the new ways. More likely for fires, probably not at the moment, but wait until we get 10 year old electric cars, and do enough fire services have all the details yet on battery safety. All those electric bikes were lost in the E series races before the current ducati e bikes are an example and we have plenty of home fires started on e-scooter left too long on charge here in uk. Thanks again for posting, stay safe, best wishes.

Hi Marc your brakes problem make sure you are not power washing your motorcycles brake discs if they are still hot because If they cooled down suddenly because of the cold water you can worp your discs And the only way you can fix this is by getting your brake discs skimmed or buy new ones Lots of engineering places can skim car and motorcycle discs this is not very expensive
