Check out Marshall Tucker's Band "Live in the UK 1976" album. It's pure bliss. Absolutely fantastic and can give you an absolute basis of where Marcus gets most of his sound from. It's amazing to see that Toy Caldwell's leaving an Impact like this. He's one of Rocks greatest unknown guitarists by many. For many never delve into MTB's live albums and shows only their studio work.

great version and MK is talented, however, if you want to hear the best live version of this song listen to the original band, Marshall Tucker, play it live from 1974 in Manchester from the album Stompin' Room Only, audio only so no video unfortunately, incredible voice by Doug Grey and simply amazing solo guitar part(one of the best solos I ever heard in my life) by none other than genius Toy Caldwell who only played with his right thumb believe or not, Toy said that's how his daddy taught him to play, how any guitarist can play as fast like him with only one finger is beyond comprehension, Marshall Tucker's drummer, Paul T. Riddle, once said that Toy just had music pouring out of him, and one time when they were touring early in their career they stopped their bus for a pit stop and Paul asked Toy to get off the bus and take a break, Toy responded with...."I'll be with you later, I have to finish writing this song", that song is "Searchin' for a Rainbow", written on a bus in the early 70's by Toy Caldwell, remarkable! The live version of that song on Stompin' Room Only album is also amazing....Toy was also no wimp as he did 2 tours in Nam along with most of the other band members...rest in peace Ol' Cowboy!!! Your music lives on and inspires many...

@@John-zq3xl Him and Steve Gaines are by far the most underrated southern players and honestly I'd say Toy is even more underrated because Marshall Tucker never reached the mainstream level that Skynyrd had reached at their peak.

saw MTB many times live and all the musicians were A+++. Miss the 70's and 80's live shows where standard lineup might be Allman Bros, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Marshall Tucker. Throw in Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, The Outlaws, Sea Level, Dixie Dregs, Wet Willie, Telluride, Locust Fork Band, you had a great show instore.

Honestly if he had the looks and charisma of John Mayer he'd probably be a household name. I put him in the category with guys like Joe Bonamass and Josh Smith. Absolute monster players that just can't seem to write songs that are well crafted pieces of music that connect with people on a deeper level than just chord progressions that are excuses to solo over. Don't get me wrong. I think Marcus is an insanely great player but I just don't think he's a "star" in the general sense. I saw him set in with Clapton and felt like I was the only person in there that even knew who he was but it's awesome that Clapton lends his stage to young guys like this. He did great playing with Clapton.

@@SimpleManGuitars1973 I respectfully disagree with you on the song writing part. You can’t compare the song writing ability of Joe B or Josh Smith or Kurt Fletcher or any of those really awesome blues players to MK’s song writing ability. MK has a laundry list of awesome songs - Goodbye Carolina, Wildflowers and Wine, The Well, Confessions, Side Door - I could go on. But the point is that MK has some tangible and intangible qualities that separates him from those guys that are really in the blues lane and puts him closer to Mayer, Stapleton, etc. Personally I think he’s going to blow up within the next few years. It didn’t happen for Stapleton until he was in his mid-30’s. Marcus is 10 years younger than when Stapleton took off.

I'm just saying he doesn't have good "pop songs" and honestly whereas we guitar nerds follow Mayer for his insane skills as a writer AND player the vast majority of his fame comes from the fact that he is known to mainstream audiences as a "pop star". I'm saying I don't see Marcus King entering that territory but I definitely don't think he has bad songs. I just don't think he'll ever woo the ladies with Slow Dancing In A Burning Room or Your Body Is A Wonderland type songs.

@@SimpleManGuitars1973 Fair point but I can see him writing a Joy of My Life or another Stapleton-like ballad that has little bit more of southern vibe to it. He actually has a great unreleased ballad called “Delilah” that is just him and a B-3. It’s an excellent song that showcases his voice. I think it’s going to be on his next album - there is a rumor that Rick Rubin is going to personally produce the next one.
