I CAN REMEMBER SEEING HERBIE PLAY IN SMALL CLUBS IN BERKELEY,CA. BACK IN THE 70S. MAN HE WAS SOMETHING ELSE, EVERYONE LOVED HIM. HIS MUSIC WAS SO NEW AND DIFFERENT BACK THEN.

Killer trumpet solo by Roy Hargrove on 'Spider' - brother knew how to build up momentum, tension and release, always swinging, always grooving - he could go OUT but always telling a story, w/ melodic/musical sense. Rhythm section laying it down,x popping, Herbie playing awesome parts and soloing with earthy rhythms and astral harmonic sense - taking up a notch.

I'm gald I had to see 2 of them in live (Lionel Loueke and Marcus Miller) while I was a teenager. It's surely a deep experience. Can't wait to see the others too. Honestly, If I was at this live and witnessed them playing "Spider" I would lost my sh*t and start crying of hapiness.

@@othercarib I wonder too. Herbie is no stranger to Psychedelics, he talks about it in his great autobiography 'Possibilities', but as far as this tune, I never her him discussing the specifics that inspired it.

I often take a trip back to this instance of time, and still find it an awesome experience. At first I was picking my favorite parts, then all of a sudden, it was all my favorite part!! Awesome assembly of master musicians!!!
