I don´t understand how a person that is been so important to the grow of the beatbox community could have so much hate from the same community, I always thought that Marcus is a great representation of how cool is what beatboxers do, thank god that the beatbox community has moved to a musical terrain over the last years and now we appreciate more the beats that are not so overcomplicated but they are clean and with good structure and entonation (Antilt, codfish, show-go, pwad, Den, even people like Pacmax, River, Inertia are moving to a more musical beatbox style), and this men has been doing it since vine era, inspiring lots of beatboxers that are on a top level on this days, so congrats to Marcus, Pd: all of the beats that he did in this podcast were great even if he says that they were trash

As someone who was there and who has been watching and keeping up with the beatbox scene for over 2 decades, you have to put yourself into the perspective of the people that were there. He blew up on Vine which was about 2013 - the Beatboxing scene was a fraction as big as it was now. Swiss Beatbox was growing but what is now Beatbox Battle TV was easily the #1 platform for beatboxing. Swiss Beatbox didn't even have half a million subscribers back then, and the GBB was just really starting to develop as a legitimate battle. There were almost zero beatboxers with a KZbin or Social Media presence at the time. You saw them in battles and shout outs and that's about it. Meanwhile, Marcus was doing 7 second clips and getting hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of views, and you had an influx of people from Vine who thought Marcus Perez was the best beatboxer ever. It rubbed a lot of us the wrong way because here were these people coming on videos with Skiller, and Alem, and Markooz, and Robeat, and Lytos, and KRNFX - all talking about how much better Marcus was than all of them. It continued for years, I remember people would be in the comment section of videos of D-Low or Napom being like "Oh, he's good, but Marcus Perez is better". The only videos of him beatboxing for any extended period of time - at the time - were terrible. You could tell he had very good sounds, but didn't have the technical skills to carry a beat for an extended period of time, and meanwhile many of his "fans" were talking shit about how he would destroy Ball-Zee and Dharni in battles. That being said, he has improved DRASTICALLY. His Vine era videos were objectively mid, while some of his Tik-Tok's are legitimately jaw dropping. It's honestly incredible. I'm glad he stuck with it because he's fantastic.

@@Helldog6 But you only see the bad of what happened, despite the fact that many people considered him the best beatboxer and did not come out of that idea, many others began to be interested in beatbox thanks to him, to consume more content related to the subject and to get involved with it. Probably the Marcus fandom only entered the videos of other beatboxers to say that he was better and then they left, perfect, those people don't stay in the community for long, but many others entered and maybe they were inspired to keep practicing it, in the end Marcus brought a lot of assholes, but the exchange is positive if you compare it with the people who entered the community with respect, who are worth much more, after all, those who followed vine the most were children and children are very passionate with the people they consider the best, but that does not mean you should take their comments into account.

I've been beatboxing since 7th grade in 2005. I grew up in NJ close to NYC and my dad grew up with the invention of hip hop. With that I had a ton of time in beatbox from a young age. I got interested in the new school of beatboxing because of Reeps on BBBTV. I never thought I was going to be able to do new school sound like throat bass until I saw your videos on Vine. I now beatbox in Florida and internationally on cruise ships. I don't owe it all to you, but Marcus, you are a MAJOR part of my passion in the art. And top two influences in my abilities in beatbox. I Thank you for every scarce but of content you post. I wish it was more but I understand the ebb and flow of creative drive. I just love people talking honestly, it doesn't even matter what they talk about as long as they say what they really mean and think. I love these types of conversations. Thank you. Love Marcus, he's an amazing beatboxer .. and I actually think he can overcome his perfectionism in terms of just freeing himself to be more ok with making mistakes and just enjoying what he does. It goes back to the contort zone, which you have to train to break away from. And the more often you do it, the freer you become. I managed to do it in some areas in my life. But you def need to first recognise it as an issue

Such a great point. When i wanted to make songs i had no idea just how hard it is. Especially when you are writing the lyrics and producing the music. I used to start with the beat. As soon as it starts sounding good (a clap, high hat, kick drum, melody) i had to immediately start writing the lyrics. There just isnt a substitute for that inspiration you feel when you 1st hear something new. i could write 2 verses in an hour if i stopped making the beat and wrote. Because, like Marcus mentions, you will be listening to your new piece of music a thousand times....just fleshing out the percussion section, building several basslines (with variations), expanding the melody and adding in variations, you will be so TIRED of your own, unreleased beat lololol. It will feel so old to you when you are finally ready to show it to people.

Being a perfectionist is hard, it's good and a curse at the same time. You would spend hours or days making something, either you have so many ideas or you would focus on one thing. You will make diff ver. Of it, then were down to an amount of options. When you are done you will pause thinking about things before sharing it. And then when you share it you would think again about what would others say abt it. It's hard. It produces quality sh"t, but it's exhausting.

The community doesn’t understand that musicality is what appeals to the common public and the non-beatboxer, and the greats and battles heavily favored technical (at least historically). The technicality was driven from old beatbox being more percussion-focused and favoring complex drum breaks, which the common ear can’t connect with. As it has evolved, techniques have allowed for greater achievement of musicality. What’s interesting is the musicality also aligns with social media, versus the “underground roots” of technicality. For beatbox to reach its full potential requires a blend of both- codfish, marcus, bigman, showgo, berywam.

i am sure that he will be very well received if he goes to a beatbox event, and he will also discover a lot of new sound and technics, because it's when you meet other beatboxers in real life that you can improve and learn new stuff 🤗 All the hate he received was only because of the fame that he got on social medias, and the jealousy of some poeple who wanted to have the fame that he got. But as we see here, he is a really good guy with nice vibe's, he will enjoy the battles for sure and the community will enjoy meeting him too 😊
