I really don’t get why England don’t build their team around him. He’s such a talent and has clearly worked hard on his defence and isn’t afraid to put himself in harm’s way. With Farrell out I hope the England rebuild is with Smith at its heart

Totally agree. I think that'll be the move going forward. Tbh I can see a lot of the Quins lineup getting into the England squad. Smith at 10 and Murley and Lynagh on the wings would be tasty...

I can't recall the last time an England fly half other than Smith actually broke the game line. Maybe it happened once a decade or so ago... England + fly half + attacking, running rugby have never mixed.

@@leewilliams2763 I think so too. We need to take some of that Springbok energy and actually back our younger players like you folks have done with Libbok.

I'm an Irish fan, was wondering why he wasnt in the English and Lions sides more in the last couple years - he's dangerous. Some saying maturity, does that mean when he's covering in the backfield, or reading the game or England/Lions coaches went with the regulars when it came down to choices. I think he's got the potential to be a GOAT and one to watch in the next competition - the Six Nations.

What tae performance! Would love to see him start every game this six nations and thats not me even saying he's ready, just give him the shirt so he has time to get as comfortable to try stuff as he is here. I think he needs Care at 9 though and I know dombrandt has been rubbish for England but maybe one more chance so you have that harelquins trio together.

England rugby would benefit from using the drop goal regularly as part of their offensive game. The last world cup showed that; And also the early days of Eddie Jones' tenure when the norm was to build a score gradually through forcing penalties. Call it boring if you like, but those drop goals won Quins the game there.

He is going to be one of the best players in World rugby. Best English player of multiple generations back to Jason Robinson. Already by miles the best English fly half, only player England have that can break a defence. Talent is off the charts. Shame England played their 10's in reserve at the world cup.

@dairet1945. Smith passed, kicked and tackled well ,and this, alongside his attacking flair ,makes him more than average! If he is allowed to play his natural game ,not put into an English ‘straight jacket’(and not turned into a utility player) he has all the attributes that the FRENCH value ,and they know quite a bit about no 10’s.Let’s hope he doesn’t need to cross La Manche to avoid the constant negativity prevalent in the UK .

Borthwick won’t be that impressed because Smith didn’t kick the ball away enough and he managed to score a try. We can’t have attacking rugby in an England shirt…. God forbid we pass the ball to the outside backs, they’re just there for kick and chase.

I think (and hope) that Borthwick put a (pretty successful!) game-plan together for the WC and will now focus on younger players and a more forward-thinking game-plan. Here's hoping.

Smith is so brilliant with so much potential but what disappoints me is he doesn’t do this for England. I get that the system England play counters playing good rugby but honestly if smith sees an opportunity he should just go against the system and do his magic which will create tries. So many northern hemisphere countries just choke at world cups and it gets boring when the springboks and the all blacks are winning everything. I’m South African but I would like to see someone else win. I love us winning don’t get me wrong but it is getting boring dominating so much along with the all blacks. Northern hemisphere teams need to allow magic to be created from the players which is what gives the bokke and the all blacks the edge. The northern hemisphere has team brilliance but lacks the individual brilliance that gives an edge.

@@kingcurry6594 let's see how Smith/Ford/Smith do in his absence - also it depends on what gameplay Borthwick and team choose as to which Fly Half is best suited.
