I admire your tanacity and ambition on the rebuild but I need to point out some pretty major mistakes before you go furthered an run into issues. Taking the wire wheel to the truck pasds was a big mistake they all need to be the same height to within a couple of microns you will now need to measure and scrape/grind them back into spec. When you refitted the linear rails on the y axis you need to use a dial indicator and check parallelism between the two rails, it needs to be 0.01mm or less over the whole length same for height between all truck pads. Once you have the rails aligned you them need to align the ball screw to the rails that has to be parallel side to side and up and down within 0.01mm to the rails. When you mount the top table x axis you need to mount the rails to the underside of the table first thin indicate between the rails for parralesism and height then you flip it over and lightly tighten the trucks to about 10ftlbs you then need to use a granite square and indicate the x and y axis into each other to 0.01mm or less then you can torq the x trucks down to about 28ftlbs. Once that is done you need to check the x axis ball screw is alligned side to side and I. Height with the rails and move the end bearing blocks as necessary to correct any screw runout. Once that is good you can then bolt up the x screw ball nut to the casting. I don't want you to be discouraged but I need to let you know so you don't ruin your machine. If you like I can send you some manuals that detail and illustrate these procedures. The worst part for you I think will be dialing the column back in, that is going to be really hard without some special equipment, you really shouldn't have seperated them as all you can do to try and align it now is to hit on the column with a big hammer to try and shift it one way or another while a buddy watches a dial indicator.

Hey, I know im kina late but I just stumbled across this video. I currently study mechanical engineering and I am interested in this kind of topic. You mentioned that you have some manuals detailing the process. I was wondering if you know literature that goes further into this? Did a quick google search but found nothing that seems to go into detail. Would be nice if you could help me out.

@16:32, that mount, gets tightened (4 allen cap head bolts) after the table is on the machine, and the linear bearings are aligned and the ball lead screw is aligned in both + & - of the tables travel.. it is tight to get in there to do so, but cutting an allen wrench short on the short end is the "custom tool" required for that aspect.. all in efforts to not stress the ball lead screw with two harsh contact points from the carrier being canted.. instead of the entire track of balls sharing the load.. can mean the difference of 400 hours of life to 10,000 hours of use on the ball lead screw.. Good luck. well done by the way. I have enjoyed watching somebody else do the work throwing these heavy casting around for once...

@SailingYachtDreamcatcher4 жыл бұрын
Is there any specific reason you are not tramming in any of your Axis? Once you start running this machine, you are bound to have errors which will require a teardown and proper tramming. Even the level and parallelism between two adjacent guides are not being checked.? Also, why are you not folding over the locking tabs of the lock washers?
@gorak90002 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question! I'm doing a similar tear down and clean / fix of a VMC and I'm very careful what I take apart and what I don't (ball screws for instance - my machine is all box ways so I don't have to worry about linear rail alignment) to not have to re-align things later.

Those linear rails use balls? Seems in sufficient due to the weight and how heavy and big the machine is. It should be using rollers bearings. I hate to see the accuracy and deflection the machine has.

@MarekTabi4 жыл бұрын
Chcem ponahadzovat motori a sfunkčniť to. Predsa len sa to trosku lepšie dolaďuje keď niekoľko stoviek kilové komponenty nemusíš posúvať ručne 😁
@chronokoks4 жыл бұрын
