Marella Explorer FULL CRUISE REVIEW

We did this cruise last year, and loved the locations. We have never done any cruise excursions, as we like to walk off a ship and just explore; usually the town is only a short walk away. We might do a few touristy attractions, but mostly we just sit in a square with a drink and watch the world go by, or go in a few shops and so on. The food onboard is terrific, we love the Italian restaurnant best of all, not sure what the problem with the desserts was (?) as I found plenty of choice that I loved. We do take the premium package as it works out at about £12.00 each per day and we love the good coffee in the coffee longue, as complete addicts and also the quality of the wine choice is better. I make a point to try different cocktails on the premium list each evening to make it pay, really not that hard a task to be challenged with! I agree about the shows, some of the female singing actually hurt my ears, it was so shouty, and being slightly overweight as a dancer, is not a good look (probably too much temptation with the food onboard?). Our favourtie cruise of all (which we have done several times) is the Marella Explorer to the Canary Islands in Spring, really terrific weather and locations, not over crowded like the Med, which everyone rushes too, the area feels a lot calmer and more relaxed and enjoyable all round.

Most of the other passengers because they are snobs. The food wasn't good. When they took my wife's walker once she was seated in the dining room they did not take good care of it to make sure we could get it back right away. The formality of Cunard. A man must have a jacket to enter the MDR. My wife had to wear a dress or skirt with a blouse. One time entering the MDR they said they didn't like my western boots. The casino isn't run well.

A friend, who came to the UK to live age 8, has relatives still in Canada. They came to Scotland to stay with her (you could rent a cottage instead?) and then went on a Tui cruise, flying from Glasgow, for the week, as part of that holiday. That enabled them to see a lot of the Med area, in an easy and enjoyable way, as part of a longer holiday. Have you got anyone to stay with in the UK at all? Possibly a house swop even, loads of people here in the Scottish Highlands have relatives or connections to Canada!

Great review, thank you, we did explorer 2 in sept, booking on explorer for a med cruise for april. Loved how simple the booking and whole flight, transfer and embarkation was. Certainly got the bug!! 😁🚢

I was in this same ship during the summer, I agree with the comments on the choreography but the performers where some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, in fact I’m still in contact with some of them now, it was a brilliant cruise and I wish I could go back!

The Pairing Menu night at the Dining Club was very very good - £50 a head - but I would expect to pay more than double that in the UK for a similar experience. The service at Umi Shushi was fine for us there were 4 staff when we were there.

That’s great to hear you enjoyed the pairing menu, it looks amazing 🤩 I think they were definitely low on staff for us in Umi Sushi but the service from the waiter was fab and he did an amazing job. It looked very stressful!

There are water stations on almost decks , we just go there for the water to make a cuppa on our cabin

Food has to be good on a cruise. Didn't like the food on several cruise lines and will not go back. Italian food is mostly good. My wife's Italian. The Mediterranean sounds good too. Snack Shack looks like a buffet. Marketplace is a Buffet. Not a Sushi fan. You could get very sick eating raw or undercooked fish. Steakhouses are usually good. Kora LA I would probably pass on. Bad service is also a turn off. Afternoon tea is also good. Some cruise lines do it better than others. Not really a bar person. Mini golf could be good. If I was to drink that much per day would probably die of cirrus of the liver. When on vacation don't like to be online. Watching a sail away or a sail into port was good from the balcony. Went on a Cunard Cruise. Was disappointed.
