Awesome show as always !! Troy, if you get a chance to do some web shopping... Do a search for, mono-coat or mono-kote ! It's the covering used for RC model planes. It comes in a roll like cling-wrap. It's a really tough single sided self adhesive and heat shrinkable plastic sheeting ! It's great for quick repairs on areas with voids and on irregular shaped items. And would probably quiet the props your wind generator even more, after first doing a little sanding/smoothing !! Just make sure whatever brand you get has water-proof adhesive, most are ! It's slicker than paint and comes in a multitude of colors too ! Blue sky, breeze and lots of fun to you and Pascale !

That's so much content packed into your videos. I love it. I was impressed that you still have the wingnuts on your solar panels, they seem like the sort of thing that will end up over the side really easily. I noticed Troy keeping a finger on the circlip - that'll be the 'experiment near a supply shop' part I reckon :) Ideally wear eye protection and work inside... circlips are notorious for their ability to exit enclosures at high speed and always in the most annoying possible direction. I'm sure AvE has covered this in his inimitable way.
@FreeRangeLiving6 жыл бұрын
Good point about the eye protection. When we're fishing at dusk we often take off our sunglasses and I insist on putting them back on when a fish is coming back to the boat. A hook in the eye is so easy to do and would be unimaginably horrible on a small boat in the wilds of Oz. I bet a circlip would be pretty unforgiving too.

Nice video Troy little advice on the bearings . In your case with the gen as the bearings really didn't need pressing . If you do a run into a situation, heating the receiver of the bearing either in an oven or gentle flame on the housing Then freezing the bearing you will never require taping/hitting or pressing the bearing in . As I do this on a regular bases I find that you must always and I mean always repack these new bearing, as most do not get packed properly at the factory. Highly recommended on the repack. Cheers and fair winds 👌👍
@FreeRangeLiving6 жыл бұрын
I have had to chill or heat bearings in the past for interference fit in transmissions etc but repacking bearings is new to me. What have you found to be there problem? I'm interested in this.

Personally I think the solar panel set up is not just functional, it's good looking and not a Macgyvered / Mad Max like. :) Also I had to laugh. Everywhere else if snakes were an issue it would be boots with snap on gaiters. For Aussies it's just putting on a pair of deck shoes. :)

I really think that you could take that iron rock and some quartz and make a radio. haha.. ..... I read somewhere that having more blades (ie, 5 or 7) would balance , spin on lower speeds, and be more quiet. Years ago, seemed all you could get was 3 bladed props. Now I starting to see multi blades on rooftops. Then it might just be the brands, too? Enjoyed the video! a highlight of the week! Cheers!

I dunno Troy.. I quite like the way your stern arch is set up.. having a good arrangement isn't easy with a narrow stern like that. My upcoming build is a double ender, which makes things even harder, so for future reference, I've spent a good bit of time noting various details of how yours is set up. You mentioned there's a few things you don't like, or would change.. could you elaborate on them, please?

Troy, You say you will lose the archway if you venture into the Southern Ocean and get the solar panels mounted on the side rails, but you don't say why, other than mentioning the swell height. I'm guessing it's to reduce weight above decks, to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible and retain your righting momentum in a big sea? I'm interested, because we are in the process of fitting solar prior to an ocean crossing (Atlantic, not Southern!) and have gone with side mount solar panels, to keep the COG as low as possible and also, because we have Hydrovane wind steering gear and I fear an archway might interfere with the airflow around the windvane, but most yachts our size (we're 35 feet) favour the archway. Interested in your thoughts. Very much enjoying your channel and have done from the start - you two have a blend of presentation and material which is truly unique, in a sea of sailing channels, a very special formula which makes each episode unmissable, so very well done :)
@FreeRangeLiving6 жыл бұрын
I do think our arch interferes with air flow but we make it work ok. I was thinking that the panels up high might help a large boarding wave get enough leverage on the frame to tear it away. Having your lifelines sweep the cockpit may be fraught with possibilities! Now I think just removing the panels for a bight crossing and something them should be ok.
@thetravelsoftatsu39676 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. 👍 Agree it doesn't bear thinking about!
