Uamh an Oir (The Cave of Gold) traditional, sung by Margaret Bennett.
This song is based on an ancient legend which tells of a famous piper, thought to be a MacCrimmon, who goes into a cave to find out why it claims so many lives. He tells the people to listen to his music and it will tell them what is happening in the cave. To begin with it all sounded fine, then the music changed suddenly. From deep within the cave, his pipe music echoes out, telling those listening that a green fairy-demon is attacking him.
The song imitates the pipes and begins:
"It's a pity I didn't have three hands, two for the pipes and one for the sword."
The song is featured in the film by Tim Neat and John Berger, ‘Play Me Something’ featuring Tilda Swinton. (player.bfi.org...)
