I absolutely LOVE when a KZbinr builds a TRUE junk journal out of JUNK!! Junk mail, tags, etc. I HATE to measure and I hate for my journal to look cookie cutter. REAL Junk journals will look different, unique as the Artist. THANK YOU for this video. These journals are not done enough.

I mean, junk journals reflect the artist in many ways. Mine would be really uncanny to me if it was trully messy, i'm an aspiring illustrator and i would consider myself an ambicious person(over achiever? Maybeeeee…), so i'm a perfectionist by nature since i was little, everything HAS to be as i imagine it, otherwise it rubs me off the wrong way, like, "this ain't right". That doesn't mean things have to look like in my head aaaaall the time, sometimes i improvise or make use of my head when it's empty to work a page without planning, but it will still look very "clean" and "polished" compared to a true junk journal or scrapbook, 'cause i'm that way, from my organization systems to my art journals and "messy" sketchbooks. Clean and neat, despite all my efforts of doing the opposite. I wished i could have a junk journal this free of self judgement and my own expections, but well, i can't. I'm a cookie cutter journal bun 😂

FYI... in returning to the Yogi tea, If you look at the tab that is attached to the string that you hang on to when you pull the tea bag out of the brewed tea, look at the underside of that tab. There are lovely little sayings to brighten your day or give encouraging words. I didn't discover this until a few days ago, and I've been drinking that tea for a long time.!!! I also like to fold these tabs in half and use them for tabs on the edge of a JJ page. (other than the tea, I use the tea bag itself, the string, and now the tabs. Freebies are wonderful..!! jo

I love so much about this video, Margarete. I currently have my entire art room packed away due to a home renovation, and I'm itching to do something creative (but failed to keep out any supplies). Collecting for a junk journal and even starting some pages using totally free and found items is the perfect creative outlet for me right now! And I also love the idea of setting aside a journal where you don't get wrapped up in using the "good" stuff or creating a theme or making it "perfect". Sometimes the best ideas come from having no strings attached, no preconceived notions, no "precious" materials. When my kids were younger and I was traveling to sporting practices, I used to have a vintage travel case with a journal and all of the small snippets and cast-offs from past projects that were lying around on my desk. I loved sitting outside or in the car working on these little gluebooks while I waited. I'll have to revive that habit on my back porch. Thanks for such inspiring ideas!

On one of my visits to Half Price Books, my car was parked by the trash bin. Of course I peeked in and it was full of book that they always say they will "recycle". There were a ton of children's books and a few other books I grabbed. It had started to rain and it broke my heart to know all those books would be ruined. HPB never gives you a good price to buy books to resell. But they throw out instead of donating.

To be honest, there are very few places they can donate books. Most libraries don’t have room for old books. And most recycling places don’t take books. Some places still do take them but, if they don’t have room where else can they go but into their trash. Especially if they are damaged or mildewed. It is a sad fact of life in the life cycle of books…
