Thank you Clive. This piece of music I wrote a little after a weeks filming. Had so many shots but couldn't decide what to put in and what to leave out. Was the first Sunset I took with this Camera, but have taken better ones since, especially with some sort of clouds. was good meeting you and sure we will bump into each other again. Would certainly love to see your photography, especially on the Sunsets.

Hello Geoff, to reduce wind noise, a system I've used for many years now, is to get some Blu tack and roll it out into small strips, each piece being placed around the mic holes to form a rectangle. Place a small piece of foam into the centre of the Blu Tack shape, Then cut out a piece of an old wind sock or similar long fibres material, which is carefully glued onto the Blu Tack. This creates a barrier and is very effective in reducing wind noise, without damaging the camera...Regards...Bob

Thanks Robert. It's not until You start using it and then compare it to my smaller camcorders that I realize it is a fantastic piece of equipment. The only main problem I came across was the wind constantly blowing into the mics, That's why I decided to write my own music for the films. I've since found a way to get rid of most of the wind noises and that was to fix a small piece of sponge from a mic cover with elastic bands, not very elegant but it does the trick pretty well.

Thanks Jan. Believe it or not I didn't actually do anything special with the helicopter, I was trying out the Digital Cinema Mode and noticed that the effect was caused by strobing, so I actually found out quite by accident. However I have also notice that filming only in Cinema Mode is not as sharp as the normal mode, but then I like to film in 25fps mode in highest quality which appears to have a Movie/Film type look.

Thank you Konrad. Its always nice to hear from people that appreciate my work. The Actual film footage was initially testing my new Panasonic Camera. I had composed the music especially for the film. I have written and produced so many more pieces which are now on this channel. Some are more elevating than others.

Having said all that Geoff, and external microphone with a wind sock attached is also a great piece of kit to get, along with a metal bracket on which camera and mic are attacked to prevent the mic encroaching on the camera image due to the wide angle of the 29mm lens.....Hope this helps...Bob

Finally someone who knows how to get the best out of this camcorder. Great footage (especially in 1080p despite YT video recompression) I own one of its predecessors, the TM700. However, the lack of a remote control, coupled with only a minimal increase in low light performance makes me hesitate on upgrading. I'm thoroughly convinced I can achieve the same high quality footage as this with my 3 years old TM700. Only the higher resolution LCD screen would be a real welcome improvement.

It's original. I did make use of the camera's white balance for some shots and other clips I made use of the inbuilt Digital Cinema Mode. I prefer if possible to get as much out of the filming rather than have to make any alterations before I edit the whole thing using Sony Vegas. Some of my other films I may use time stretch or simply add a little contrast if I feel it needs it. But I can say that the X920 did most of the work here for me.

checking out the X920 & that;s how I got here, wonderful mr. Dean. What struck me is the colors in the beach scenes. Purple towels, a red shirt, the lifeguard & so on. They seem quite saturated to me, somewhat like the Fuji 8mm experience of the 60's. Could you elaborate a bit on that, unless you deem my observation to be somewhat off track ? :)
@geoffdeanthemeparks
@geoffdeanthemeparks 9 жыл бұрын
+TheMrBennito No you're not off track. I don't think I made many changes to this. I used sony vegas and added a little contrast, and on some of the clips I added A little warmth to the mid tones via the colour corrector. Now it's interesting that you mentioned about the 8mm Retro experience as at that time I sort of wanted that kind of warm feel to appear film like. I'm unsure if I actually achieved anything like that to others but I kind of liked what I did at that time, where as now I tend to not play too much with colours quite so much. On saying that I I could change depending on the mood. Some people have pointed out that maybe in some area's in some of my uploads I had possibly gone a little over the top with post productions, all constructive of course. The Panasonic colours are pretty strong I feel without any alterations, the reds seem to be red where as I have used camcorders in the past that process a red more as a dark pink. Purple is a colour that I noticed stayed purple, for instance: check out my Blackpool Illuminations night time lighting and you will see that there are purple lights, where as in the past, purple had come out as a blue which was disappointing.The three M.O.S. sensors I believe make a great deal of difference both in daylight and at night. Also with coloured night lights I get good colours and not the bleached out whites with a hint of the original colour I used to get at one time. I'm unsure as to whether this is to your taste or not or you are simply enquiring all round, but I hope this has helped a little. Regards Geoff dean.
@TheMrBennito
@TheMrBennito 9 жыл бұрын
thanks for your elaborate response, and no my observation was not fed by considerations of personal taste. I am simply not aware of all the digital postproduction options. I only spent a lot of time as an amateur in my dark room, pointless knowledge on chemicals , custom made casts etc, in the digital age :) When it comes to taste I actually like the accentuation & giving the beach scene a more saturated look. As said, it reminded me somewhat of 60's Fuji. Or technicolor. Thanks so much for the additional info. By the way, I am dutch, we have the golden dutch skies experience & Bosch, Rembrandt, van Gogh & Karel Appel all gave us their own rendition of colors. IMHO there is not too much to say about when color is over the top and when it isn't; it's all in the eye of the beholder :)

Hi Geoff - can you tell what settings you used for this footage - and what editor dod you use. Also which format to upload to KZbin. I've got the x920 as well but am experiencing some "dust" or "noise" on my footage - particulary filming indoors. Any guidance greatly appreciated.
@geoffdeanthemeparks
@geoffdeanthemeparks 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick I'm unsure as to what the exact settings were as this was one of the first pieces of filming I did. I know I relied on the auto white balance. I most probably set it similar to how I film now which is: Manual Mode, Frame Rate 25fps pal system (30fps if you are out of Europe). Set the shutter speed at twice the frame rate ie 50 for 25fps or 60 for 30fps. Iris darkened to suit. Manual Focus, but I must confees that sometimes I do use Auto Focus. I am using Sony Vegas to edit with. I render most of my films to MP4, there are several, I initially used MP4 HQ 25fps 1920X1080 (30fps depending on your country) which rendered quicker than WMV files, you will need to download the VCL player to view that particular file, however since then I have had an update from the internet that has now added settings especially for Internet in MP4 at 1920X1080 which take a little longer in rendering but upload to youtube a lot faster. Windows files seems to upload the fastest but for some reason they didn't seem quite so bright when viewing back, but maybe that was me or the players I used. Not sure about noise on your footage indoors as these particular camera's are one of the best in there range on the market for being able to take good footage in low light, if you are using it in manual then it may be worth altering the shutter speed and iris controls. How does it all look in iA mode? anyway, hope this helps and that you enjoy using the X920. Cheers Geoff

@geoffdeanthemeparks
@geoffdeanthemeparks 9 жыл бұрын
Ok. You have the other version as opposed to mine but it should still have a cinema mode within it. I can't remember off hand how to do it but i know you have to go into the menu and first make sure that the zoom function is on it's lowest setting (12 x Zoom) and once that is set you should see within the menu a setting for Digital Cinema Mode, enter this mode and you should be now able to take film in 24fps. You can also find a setting for digital cinema color within the menu as well which you may choose to use or not. I think that somewhere hidden in the user manual it should help you find the settings. Merry Christmas.
@ConsumerDV
@ConsumerDV 9 жыл бұрын
If it is anything like its predecessors like the TM700 or TM900, the Cinema Mode employs 2:3 pulldown for the 60 Hz model, and 2:2 pulldown for the 50 Hz model. It does not have native progressive 24p or 25p. To obtain proper 24p turn 60p mode off, turn Cinema Mode on, and after shooting remove pulldown with appropriate software before editing your video. 25fps is easier to handle - it is essentially 25PsF and can be treated as progressive footage in a video editing program.

can anyone here tell me does this camera has 25p or 25fps recording apart from 60p/60fps ? does it has movie mode? what format it records the video in?avchd or mpeg4 or h.264?
@geoffdeanthemeparks
@geoffdeanthemeparks 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Shreyas....First and foremost it depends which system your camera uses, for instance I am from the UK therefore it is the PAL system, The Pal system Can offer two main modes One in 50 Progressive which will give me 50 frames per second and the other is 25 Progressive which will give me 25 frames per second. There are also several other settings and at least one in 25 interlaced, still at 25 frames per second. Now depending which part of the world you are living in also depends on the Camera system you have, the USA and other parts will have virtually the same Camera but.... they will have 60 progressive = 60 fps and 30 progressive = 30fps, apart from that everything else id the same. The format on this camcorder is AVCHD, most editing software will accept it and work with it well, I did however try using it with the windows movie maker and that was the only one that it didnt work in, but since then I have tried power director and sony vegas do well, plus if you are still having problems I believe that you will have a converter which is bundled with you package. Whichever Camera you purchase you will find the quality excellent, I hope this has helped you. ..Geoff Dean

What settings did you use to gain such a beautiful scenes ? I make the movies with 1080/50p and then i download it to my PC and the quality is poor... The pixels are visible... I don't know how to solve this problem ? Did you use manual settings or automatic ? Thanks in advance ! :)
@geoffdeanthemeparks
@geoffdeanthemeparks 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Nowa. It really doesn't matter whether you are using the manual settings or auto, the picture should look as sharp as what you see here. The first thing I guess is your computer and the speed, but I guess most modern computers will handle pretty well so that probably is not the issue. when I shoot any of my movies I tend to use at 25fps which I believe is the next highest setting to the one you are using, I have found that if I use the 1080/50p then my video can look choppy at least until I have edited it. I then do all of my editing using Sony Vegas which seems to do the job very well. Are you using the same camera as myself? other camera's can be so different. I hope this helps. cheers Geoff Dean.

Nowa Prawica It's possibly the software or computer that may be causing the problem. The Camera is probably ok in itself but on saying that it could be worth getting somebody to test it for you. All I normally do is copy the files from the SD card onto my computer into a folder and I use the raw clips straight into my Sony Vegas Movie Editor and then render it at 1080. Maybe it could be worth just trying the 25fps rather than the 50fps, the 25fps will look more like mine and more of a film type look. Hope you get it sorted. geoff
@ConsumerDV
@ConsumerDV 9 жыл бұрын
If your 1080p50 video looks choppy then your computer simply does not have enough power to handle it. Quite the opposite - it should look more fluid than 25fps video.

Looking for some tips on shooting at night. Should I manually adjust or leave it in auto. Or! How can I manually adjust for night. Currently my manual adjustments come out grainy. Auto is a little better, but still grainy.
@geoffdeanthemeparks
@geoffdeanthemeparks 9 жыл бұрын
***** Hello Steven. Auto Settings are most likely to get some of the best shots. It can be achieved using the manual settings buy adjusting the Iris, Shutter Speeds, and although the gain is digital and can still give a great enhancement which is what it does when in full auto mode. It can also depend on the place from where you are filming from, whether it is well lit or dimnly lit can make so much difference to picture grain. Picture grain to some extent is usually present in night shots but I have found that the Panasonic is one of the best for having less of it. Geoff

Well I am the producer of the music which is actually designed as a lounge music of sorts, so I don't really know how to answer that, except I produced it purely for this filming which I tend to do on most of my work rather than use somebody else's Music. I have been told by many that my particular type of music does have a unique feel to it which is what I try hard to achieve.

Geoff Dean Hi Geoff have you tried the still photo function, if so, what's the quality like I've read its not as good as a 2mp blackberry phone which I find hard to believe, surely it has to be better than that. Cheers Phil

silkynitro This is an interesting one as I bought the camera purely for the movie side. There is a quick photo function that I believe we have all tried in the Video mode which is correct that the quality in this day and age leaves a lot to be desired. However as of yet i have not tried it in the proper photo mode which then opens up a load of options. Now once the switch is in the photo mode the menu looks exactly the same, but now the most odd thing in this mode is if you access the Video menu you will find it has turned into a lot of photo settings instead. Sometime I will try this whole feature and see if what has been said is true.

In the night shoots... At what gain value (db) you had set the camera?
@geoffdeanthemeparks
@geoffdeanthemeparks 9 жыл бұрын
***** I can not remember off hand what the gain settings were but I am pretty sure I used a reasonable ammount and altered the shutter speed accordingly, also keeping it still on a tripod helps immensely.

Nice video and in particular the night shots. I'm convinced that the HC-X920 is better than the Canon G30 for lowlight shots. The only thing that bothers me with this model is the repeated reports from some owners of gross overexposure (4 stops!!!) in Auto mode. Have you found this on your camera? >Cheers
@geoffdeanthemeparks
@geoffdeanthemeparks 10 жыл бұрын
So far I have used mostly auto aperture, and shutter speeds and half of the time have relied on auto focus. But I have indeed found that overexposure has happened on some of my shots especially in extreme sunshine where it whites out what should be a blue sky, or overexposes something that is light to a whiter light than it should be. In a lot of cases it has been a case of having limited time to take a shot, but on saying that it can all be overridden by use of the shutter and aperture manual settings, plus it also has a zebra mode which is really handy. I know in this film I did not use Aperture or Shutter Manually.

Geoff couldn't you fix this problem by using a circular polarizer filter in extreme sunshine?

Great video. May I ask the exact export settings you used, especially regarding the codec? H264 maybe? Cheers.

It's ok. You just simply made me look at it in another way. Hey, if I was famous I'd have to get used to so much more than that in the way of criticism. I guessed you were not trying to offend me in any way, shape or form. Cheers Geoff.

+Jake J (GtaGamer8792) I have thought about one of the 4K camera's but I may have to also get a faster computer to deal with it as well as a new TV or monitor, although I have heard that some people are using the camera's and are getting fantastic quality by downgrading to 1080 as well as still retaining the full 4k for future use. Maybe next year I may look at one of these Camera's. . Geoff dean.

After reading many positive reviews of this camera, I am pretty disappointed by the quality of this video (playing at 1080P). The beach scenes show hardly any detail of the water or the sand. colors look somewhat posturized and dull/pale. No offence to you Geoff because the video scenes and choice of music are great!

Hi Willow. I'm unsure as to whether you may be using Internet Explorer, Opera or Firefox, as I have found that only Opera seems to bring out all of the sharpness from my original movie. My absolute original before being uploaded to KZbin is probably the best, but I have found that using explorer or Firefox left a lot to be desired viewing the exact same upload, unless there is something I may not be doing right. These were the very first shots I took with the camcorder and some scenes would have been sharper than others, especially as I was experimenting a lot to begin with. The sands and beach appeared OK to me, but the soft colours are pretty much as they are on the actual beach, I'm not too sure about the waters, but I have managed to get them sharper in other uploads. I'm sure there are many camera's that will far supersede mine, but I have to say that so far this is the best quality I have had so far. Thank you for the positive comments on the scenery and music. Willow Lacrosse I have looked at this part of Geoff's video too and I have to agree with you. Bear in mind though that YT mangles the original quality of clips. Search on KZbin for: la corse avec le panasonic hc x920 by beniross - the colours are amazing (the blues are wonderful) with plenty of detail. However, the whites of the sea foam etc. are blown out - this is the limitations of video.
