I have followed Maria and her brainpickings for more than 5 years. Nothing short of fascinating. The content is so rich and varied and the subtleties in thought so refined. Maria understands the power of curiosity as the root of discovery and imagination. Bravo Maria. I must find the time to read Figuring. Thank you Maria.

By accident I found Maria Popova's book "Figuring", maybe is was its yellow jacket, yellow being a color that's amazingly hard not to see and like, it reminds me of "joy", or better yet "happiness", and what I found inside was even more amazingly powerful! The power of intellectualism and dedication to one's passions. That's what "Figuring" did for me, it transformed my view of the world and what was now, newly important to me! I'm using the fire and passion that, that book infused within me. Too a greater extent I love the stories of the many people who overcame hardships and as well the lack of understanding that people had in that era for relationships sharing the same gender. As the old adage goes "Time heals all wounds", so does time make change possible, changes that are needed now more than ever before, an understanding that's needed now more than ever before, an understanding concerning tolerance for what some people think of as "the other", even though were all the same, bleed the same "red blood", have the same yearnings in life, to be love and wanted, as well having our dreams and goals achieved. After reading "Figuring", and after having that great book issue such a profound change within my life, I decided to chase after my dreams with the same fire, passion as well grace that the people in "Figuring" had as well. So I'm using all of my energies as well without a doubt or even a modicum of regret the fire and passion that I've accumulated for writing throughout my life, I'm channeling it into writing! I've always had a great passion for writing and now I'm making it my life's work, to earn a living as a writer, so I'm wanting to give a round of thanks to Miss Popova for her intensely inspiring novel!

Thanks for reminding me who you both were, just moments after discussing how brief our attention spans have apparently become. 😉 Pith aside, I'm enjoying this; genuine thanks.

Ok, I am sorry for the pithy comment and I regret it, this wonderful discussion deserved much better than that. 🙂
