The orchestra is, i believe, das Orchester des Berliner Rundfunks, of which Artur Rother was then the director; and the recording (as far as i could ascertain) dates from October 1941.

Date is 1943. It can be found in the DG Centenary Collection 1898-1998 "Wagner scenes and Arias". A sensational recording!

Max, what a voice! And what a joke sometimes. The kind of an very handsome guy, who's nonetheless trying too hard, like a puppy. Man: all you needed to do was sing it simple - our imagination would do the rest. I mean, YOU could sing it simple with all the effect.
