Shut the hell up all you haters. Maria played well today, ash just played better and its a poor matchup for Maria. Maria is still graceful regardless of the result-- certainly not something u can say about other salty and classless players. The journalists were so rude and insolent to ask some of those rhetorical questions to maria... they were just trying to bait her into headlines, its dispicable. And just a FYI.. Im not even a maria fan, so this is coming from an objective standpoint.

Both questions she was annoyed by were asked by British journalists. The press is made up of international journalists not Australian press. There would be lot more Australian journalists on the Ash Barty press.

The toilet break that Sharapova took was entirely within the rules, even Ash Barty admitted it in her press conference. The booing just goes to show the terrible sportsmanship of the aussie crowd.

She always takes toilet break when she’s losing. She did that against Simon Halep in us open 2017, suddenly after the toilet break she was so good that she won match.

@The Hack Hut Grunting is so ubiquitous on the women's tour these days. Nothing wrong with it. Can't deal with it, don't play. Sharapova does it, Serena does it, Halep does it, Sabalenka does it etc. etc. It didn't impede Barty at all so what's your point?

@@skazka3789 The point is that Sharapova grunts much more loudly than other players, in a way that suggests she is trying to intimidate opponents psychologically. When other players make noises during the match, it seems more like a natural effect of putting effort into hitting shots. Also, Sharapova conducts other forms of gamesmanship during the match (long toilet breaks, making opponents wait to serve to break their rhythm, taking Meldonium, etc...) which may be technically within the rules but push the boundaries of sportsmanship.

Plus it was legal for 10 years when she took it and there is no conclusive evidence of performance enhancing effects. The guy who invented it even said that players would start dying from not taking it.

You always have to remember there are two players playing and they are both trying to win in real life. There are going to be troubles. How you handle those troubles will always define you. Maria is greatly disappointed. You can see it. These are the toughest interviews. We pray there will be better days for her.

Why do you think you can blame her? It seems like it does increase endurance, but how come it wasn't banned. Do you know that she even knew what she was taking? Maybe people saw it as normal, some kind of protective thing. The way the issue is dealt with is really low and immature. It might not been right but you don't give her a chance to process it. You just condemn her. That is so low. You see that she is human. It's so immature in comparison to what a human is. You are just interested in blameing and people who blame, they don't even care, so why would anyone open up to them or even could. 5 slams isnt a fluke, and nor is 10 grand slam finals and 30+ wta titles, someone like ostapenko is a fluke player but maria hits the ball so hard and wins a lot of matches showing theres way more quality than luck, especially to win on all surfaces too, it takes a lot of skill and as the other person said, mental strength
