My first daughter was born in spring 1992, I remember holding her and dancing around the living room to this on the radio. She heartbreakingly died 9 months ago today aged just 30. I know I am a guy and guys dont say shit like this, but this song came out when I was in middle school. In 9th grade I had my first real girlfriend and we lost our virginity together. We were together for almost 3 years. After we broke up I didn't fight for her like I should have. This was actually our song. Now, 20 years later I know that she still lives in my area, married and has a kid but every once and a while I still think about her and wonder if she ever thinks of me. Chandler- Yeah, and obviously it's had lasting effects on mariah. It must be hard for Mariah to be close to people, we will never know the extent of it because mariah hasn't really opened up about it apart from admitting it was emotionally and mentally an abusive relationship. Tommy admits in his memoirs book that he went against his therapists advice, and got with mariah while already married to another women. To me that's already a red flag, he frankly used his position as a CEO promising her the world that she'd be a star, and he'd make it so, and that he'd be there for her in the romantic sense and she fell for him because she saw that he believed in her talent and gave her attention in other ways nobody did, and so she liked that attention. But then the signs of being controlling and being possessive were coming out, and I think because mariah prier to being signed wasn't experienced with relationships so she was young and naive and chose to be with him despite knowing these signs, though things got worse over time. And that's deviating for her to be so young and to go through that as well, Married at 23. Possibly wasn't with him long enough before marrying him and.. the rest is history. She's had success without him, which pretty much tells you she wouldn't of needed him to get to where she is today, yes she had great success with Sony, but the fact her success blossomed after her divorce then sorry Tommy, she was always going to find success.

I would turn on MTV first thing in the morning, my sister and I would put a VHS in and we'd tape every single song that was on. TLC, Michael Jackson, Mariah, REM, Simply Red, Whitney Houston, Alanis Morissette, MTV's week in rock, etc. We would have friends and cousins over and we would dance and sing for hours. Scatman was a favorite. We would copy Michael's moves when Black or White was on. Then we would watch Cartoon Network. In the afternoon on weekends we'd go to birthday parties with our shoes that lit up and mom's brown lipstick that we shouldn't have been wearing. Rocking jeans dungarees and ponytails with two strands of hair in the front. Jelly shoes. Dancing, laughing, happiness. I would give anything to go back and feel the pure joy of the 90s if only for a day.

I grew up listening to this song cause its my mom’s absolute fav and shes a big fan of Mariah. Listening to this def brought back a lot of childhood memories especially in the early 2000s. My mom passed away 2 months ago due to jaundice and colon cancer at the age of 48, I miss her so much and I’ll always play this song to revisit those memories again. Rip ❤
