Though not a big Mariah fan, I have seen the Ken Lee videos for years, the one she saw and the clip when the same show brought her back, and it would be easy to rip into someone who obviously did not do well at all. This was the Model of (insert country name) Idol/Music Idol format to let someone through to make people say WTF and laugh. Mariah just said nice things and took the high road where most would have piled on an insult or just stay quiet and and rush it along. Kudos to Ms. Carey.

That's what I hate the most about those talent shows. Producers deliberately seek people on early auditions who sing or look bad or funny, hype them up, tell them that are great just to get them to main audition on TV where they'll be laughed at and ridiculed by judges who are probably in on it. All because these shows producers think it's good TV and they need comedy in their show. These shows are never about music.

Very underrated Mariah moment here. Its so obvious the peope on this show was trying to get Mariah to poke fun at the girl and humiliate her. And she took the high road and complimented her instead. She realized she was a fan and theres zero reason to insult her. Yeah vocally it wasnt good but it doesnr really matter. Its hard sometimes even for famous singers to go on stage. But she went indeont of the world and wasnt afraid to express herself. That is a feat in itself and i loved that Mariah mentioned it. Many times, when a person is a guest on a talk show, where the hosts speak a language the guest doesn't speak/understand, the guest will be given an earpiece that has someone speaking the translation to them. Other times, if the host knows the language of the guest, they'll speak in the native language for the audience, then say the same thing in the guest's language. I would think one of those methods of translation is going on here. Props to Ms. Carey for supporting the woman who did her best singing in a language she didn't know. Ms. Carey showed class & kindness. I wonder if the hosts were being snarky about the singer?

In Germany we do the translation because we CAN do it. In smaller countries it is usually too expensive, subtitles are cheaper. If they could afford translation they would do it as well.
