The "somebody's doing the wrong note" was jokingly directed at the short white SNL tech/stage guy on the left, who was standing in for her third background singer during the rehearsal and was clearly singing off key... lol. The third background singer is playing the piano during the rehearsal. If you watch the actual live performance during the show, her real piano player is on the piano, and the third background singer is back in the third position: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJvJppl_hNqgock

For the question on "what note was that" -- she was using her whistle register. Whistle is the highest phonational register, that in most singers begins above the soprano "high D" (D6 or 1174.6 Hz) and extends to about an octave above (D7 or 2349.3 Hz). It is created by using only the back of the vocal folds. It can be very dangerous for singers if they do not do it right. Mariah is a trained singer and at her prime in the 90s especially her mastery of whistle and going in and out of it was just so perfect. Mariah is a rare gift and I am so thankful you are doing so many Mariah vids. Hmu if you're curious about more music terminology as your grow and learn about the technical side.
