I know you were expecting her to transition into the whistle at the end but this is the original version. The version you heard previously (with the insane whistle) was just something she did on the spot. AND that version was only a rehearsal. She's amazing!

Her resonance is amazing. In the first 4 albums she was compared to Whitney a lot and this performance is an example as to why. She wanted to move AWAAAAY from that and create her own unique sound...then she created this lighter Mariah, with the lighter, brighter voice. It started with daydream. She can hold her belts for a long long time, but she stated more then once that it was boring and less creative to her. No wonder she's created some of the hardest songs ever sung. Holding a belt and sustaining it wasn´t enougheventhough it is amazing when she does it. If you listen to her first 3 to 4 albums she holds long notes and uses a darker, tone. This version of Mariah that sounds younger really blossomed during the Daydream era and beyond.

The sickening, inhuman and iconic chest to whistle transition from the SNL rehearsal in 1990 isn’t in the studio in the version (bummer😔). However, this live version was no joke especially the run at 4:43 , I’ve seen it before but still I was not ready. Thanks for the reaction and Merry Christmas!

The SNL actual performance is better than the rehearsal!!!!!!!!!! It's always been one of the fan favorite since the 90s. Don't know why the rehearsal is often referenced nowadays.

im so glad that someone remastered this concert. apparently mariah was mostly sick during the music box tour, but this is one of the dates where she wasn't sick, and needless to say, she gave us POWERHOUSE vocals!! i love this rendition so much - her resonance was off the charts, her agility was on point, and her tone was just so lush and beautiful. i also loved that this is clearly a live rendition, it's different from the studio version, which i also love. and yes, them mamas on the bgvs were SANGIN'!!!!!
