since maria didnt add the brands they use here are some good ones; Faber-Castell water color pencils are fantastic, i would stay away from gouache tbh, ive worked with it for college (if you want opaque go for acrylic) and its only real benefit is that it is easy to remove and/or change (it is veryyy touchy stuff tho, so usually u'll just want to wipe it off, which could mess up your other water based mediums, and it can do that even as you apply it). if you want really good acrylic that you dont need to water down or alter to layer/airbrush, Golden High Flow acrylics are the best. log pastels can be hit or miss, but some like MUNGYO hand rolled pastels (hand rolled pastels tend to be more expensive bc it requires more human labor = more hourly wages to pay, but they tend to be softer), others cite Faber-Castell, but if you want consistent pigmentation, smooth application and longevity PanPastel's are the best (they come with applicators (glorified sponges) but i would shy away from using those (as they are meant for fully pastel paintings, so loooooots of pigment) and instead get a high-end brush, i recommend the Sennelier Le Pastelliste brush set of three. for sealants i would use Mr. SUPER CLEAR UV Cut Flat spray, but a warning for those using both acrylic and gouache, DO NOT spray it with a heavy hand as it will effect any water-based mediums you've used. if you think this might be a problem or you are using water slide decals, apply a coat of Mr. COLOR Super Clear UV Cut Flat paint first (Amazon only has the paint-on type for flat, it does carry the semi-gloss version as a spray) mixed with thinner (i recommend the thinner from Golden's High Flow line), some do a ratio of 1:1, others 1:3, it depends on you + if you own an airbrush, like myself, thinning it allows you to run it thru your airbrush so its basically the spray can version. for varnishes use Liquitex. paint brush quality kinda depends on you, some people love working with lower quality brushes, others dont (like myself). designate your brushes for one medium and don't cross contaminate, because even if they look clean, they could still be hiding medium. as for airbrushes, go for a gravity fed airbrush. one of the best airbrushes available is the Iwata Eclipse HP-CS (you'll need a compressor that can do 25-35 psi, and the quieter you want your compressor, the more expensive they become, Iwata's are really good but expensive), but any gravity fed Iwata is great! when airbrushing, spraying sealants and glosses, always use it outside, at a time when it isnt cold or hot, and wear a HEPA respirator mask (dual cartridge reusable ones are the best). when using fine pigments wear a face mask that you can insert a HEPA carbon/wool layer into so you don't get clown lung. i would also recommend using a resin specific primer if you are working on a resin doll and plan repaint the doll, AK-Interactives Fine Resin Primer Spray is elite, grey, or AK1017 is the grey colored one (available on Amazon). white primers tend to have opacity problems and blacks tend to darken the colors painted on top, so grey is the way to go unless you can find a color close to the base color you will be using. all of these items can be found via Amazon or the Dick Blick's website for delivery (best prices on most items, sells singular pencils, pastels, acrylics, etc.. always check multiple shopping sites so you know you are getting the best deal however. free shipping for orders over 69$ that don't exceed freight-free weight limits). this is the culmination of hours upon hours of research, cross-referencing product reviews across multiple platforms, and checking compatibility against every other medium., so i hope it helps a little.

😅 If gouache offered no benefit over acrylic as a medium then no one would use it. Different artists have different preferences. It doesn’t make sense to me to discourage people from experimenting with a medium because of your own. But what do I know? My medium is ink.

@@Amaranthyne twas just an opinion specifically related to gauche use in bjd art, idk how that is discouraging use of it in general??? i also clearly stated its positives too??

@@MariaLazarsArt 😂 My words aren’t so much kind as true! Even if I had the same art supplies, I could not even _begin_ to approach your level of artistry. I don’t have the necessary patience, the steady hand, or the high standards. It is the artist that is significant, not her tools.

I clicked so fast on this one, lol! Thank you for sharing this with us! Brushes are my thing & I'm definitely going to be searching for some of the brands that are in this video. I'm always on the hunt for brushes that just 'feel right' and there are only a few that pass the test. 💜💜💜

Thanks for this video! I am trying to learn how to start and this is very helpful. How do you measure the necessary amount of flow-aid that you add to the water? what are the measurements you use? What is the size of the little dropper bottle that you use? I would love some more tips on that.
