Such a beautiful song. I have lost a best friend to suicide and this song always comforted me. this is only the second time I've heard it live. once she hits 4:10, she looks so beautiful. I am so in awe.

I've, lost 2 and a parent...one has a hardcore tori connection and introduced me to tori when little earthquakes came out...it kills apart of your soul defiantly

Moreover, Marianne like a lot of Tori's craft has many layers which can be understood differently to the listener. Marianne I felt also an essence of an archetype, if you will, for pure girlhood and expression, but in a "magical" form untainted by socialization. Marianne visibly manifested this essence, and it allowed her to see this part in herself and potentially everyone. So, when T says "not a chance" she means, as I take it, society had killed her in spirit.

i don't want to come off rude. i mean this in all respect but tori didn't actually believe that marianne committed suicide. if you read the interviews about the song she talks about how marianne was so magical and kind that she couldn't have killed herself. i am so sorry to hear about your friend though. that must be devastating.
