When I was 3 or there about’s, am now 40, I was on a flight that lost all power, and had to make a emergency landing at another airport in Canada, since then I’ve been amazed at flying, I’ll never forget the fear in my mums eyes, and she had her rosary out, and was praying to live, thankfully we all walked away, I remember getting back to pre school and telling everyone that I got to use the plane slides to get off. How easy is it to practice a full failure landing.

The video is really well done so that all of us who have some knowledge about it can understand it much better. Have you ever experienced CAT IIIC ( or CAT IIIB) approach when flying on duty ? If so, how were you feeling especially during the final stage ( descent - touch down - exit to rapid exit taxiway ) the first time it happened to you ? As RVR is almost zero, it is dangerous even after touch down, isn't it? In this case it is mandatory to request a follow-me car through the tower ( or through the airline's operation staff ) or you can try to approach the designated parking spot as much as you can or it depends on each airport procedure? And where can you meet a follow-me car? Is there some specified area for this procedure? Sorry for many questions but I am really curious about these things. Thanks!
@areyoufriendly4 жыл бұрын
I noticed you guys go back and forth with metric and standard (feet and meters). It made me curious. Does the rest of the world (pilots and control towers) adhere to standard when referring to altitude, and also with other things like the instrument panel, do you see both forms represented?
@mikep96044 жыл бұрын
When referring the altitude, feet are normally used in aviation (air traffic control and pilots). For example flight levels are shown in feet, e.g. FL350 means 35000 feet and so on. Also when you heard in the video the computer voice listing the altitude readings during the landing, they are indicated in feet.
@areyoufriendly4 жыл бұрын
Mike P Cool, thanks! Even as an American, I can say I wish we used the metric system, so that we didn’t have this amalgamation of references. How does altitude get referenced in a metric system? 🤯😄 That’s how indoctrinated I am.

Hi can you tell me that, what is flaps? What is the use of it? How to use it?
@MariaThePilot4 жыл бұрын
Basically flaps are surfaces that makes the wing bigger. It makes it possible for the airplane to fly slower and increase the lift force of the wing. We use them to reduce the speed for landing and also to get more lift during take off :). Did that answer your question?

What is the importance of dumping fuel ?what condition we need to dump fuel specially in case of emergency landing?
@MariaThePilot4 жыл бұрын
Not all airplanes have the capability to dump fuel. Normally it’s only bigger airplanes that have a maximum take off weight that exceeds the maximum landing weight a lot. If something happens after take off, the pilots need to be able to reduce the weight of the aircraft at a faster rate that the fuel burn to be able to land - that’s when fuel dumping come in handy :)

Hello, Maria and Viktor) Thank you for your work and this amazing video. Actually, i am flying in simulator too (Xplane 11), but tell me about reverse. So, you disarmed it when you was on 60, knts but in some videos I see that it disarm on 80 knots and than manual break. So the question is: at wat speed do you still need to turn off the reverse?) Thank you so much! Lycka till!
@viktorforce4 жыл бұрын
Dmitry Horvatov , I guess different reverser systems on different aircrafts have different speed limitations. We reduce the reverse thrust to idle when reaching 60 knots. But we keep it in idle until we can assure a full stop landing on the runway available. But this is Ofc if we use second detent reverser for landing. A lot of landings we only use idle reverse thrust all the way down. And stow then when a safe full stop landing is assured. On snowy and iced runways you mig need full reverse thrust until full stop.

@MariaThePilot4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the configuration of the 737. A CAT3 can be flown manually with the required equipment - for example, I believe you have to have a head up display and som other systems for that to work out. If you don’t have those systems you’re not allowed to fly the approach manually. One have to use the auto land feature.

Finns CAT 3C installerat på de flesta passagerarflygplan (t.ex 737) och stora flygplatser (t.ex Barcelona, Frankfurt osv)?
@viktorforce4 жыл бұрын

An A320 can autoland on CAT 1 ILS as far as I've seen in X-Plane 11....at 400ft the plane confirms that an autoland will be executed in which case the speed brake has to be armed so that the pilots only need to engage the thrust reversers to come to a stop
@viktorforce4 жыл бұрын

I just could not understand what does it mean by "the airport and aircraft should be equipped with ILS CAT I/II/III instruments "...can you explain a bit more about it
@viktorforce4 жыл бұрын
The ILS is an instrument landing system - basically, an antenna based on the ground at the runway. For it to be certified as either CAT 1, 2 or 3 the airports have different requirements that they need to comply with, this could be in regards of obstacle clearance, safety areas, type of approach light system etc. And therefore also a matter of costs differences for the airports. Onboard the aircraft on the other hand different types of the ILS approaches requires the airplane to be fitted with specific instruments and systems, this could, for example be - more than one autopilot, radio altimeter, dual hydraulic system, 2 air data computers etc.. These specifications also vary for different Aircraft types. Did that answer your question?

@danialasyrafsyahiran4 жыл бұрын
I think apart from having the physical instruments and systems required, the plane has to also be certified recent for an autoland in the technical log. This also applies to the pilot in which he/she needs to be recent for an autoland to commence one. Hence why sometimes, if the airport allows it, some pilots request for an autoland even in clear weather conditions in order to remain current.
@danialasyrafsyahiran4 жыл бұрын
