Great videos! Thank you for the behind the scenes. In the video you mentioned that landing in landing zone was priority and not a soft landing. Maybe you can expand on that. Maybe tell us the conditions that may force you to take a harder than normal landing.

Thanks a lot 🙏🏼 Well, that is a very good question. A “soft” landing is not always a desirable landing. For example, if you have a runway with standing water after heavy rain, the pilots would make a firm (harder) landing to make sure the tires penetrate the water surface and thus mitigate the risk of aqua planning. Also if we are landing on a performance limited runway (contaminated with ice/snow etc or just a short runway), it’s very important to land firmly on the marks to get those speed brakes up as quickly as possible and start braking. Thanks a lot 🙏🏼 It would absolutely be a good idea to mention the wind in upcoming episodes. We always prefer to land into the wind (headwind). All aircrafts out there can land with a bit of tailwind (performance dependent) and also in crosswind conditions. The wind limitations for tail and crosswind vary for all different aircraft types. The video you did on turbulence was brilliant, I fly BA and was told it was like a ship, there is plenty below you but the water might be choppy, same as flying, plenty below you but the air is always moving. I did take a fear of flying course, but very soon worked out I had no fear compared to some people.

Hey! Thanks for watching! The WX radar is turned on once we are about on line up on the runway and turned off after landing when vacating the runway. Most people confuse the the WX radar with the terrain map shown on the Navigation Display that is turned on when on the ground, as they look similar 😊
