That was something that I found on the internet as I was doing my research for this bag. It seems like a pretty simple make. You can use pretty much any pattern that has a gusset. I would not do a box corner because the hair on hide would be at the bottom of the bag. Try it and post the finished bag in my Facebook group, Simply Classic Inspirations. I look forward to seeing some of your makes!!

Thanks so much 🥰 I’ve been looking for a hair on hide purse video for a while. So glad you tackled this! I’ve got 3 hair on hides waiting so far I’ve only done pillows with them. A purse and wallet was my next project in the works. I really enjoyed your tutorial as I do all of them. Thanks for being unique and tackling different ideas and challenging items!

Wanda, You are so welcome! I am glad to hear that someone out there has hair on hide and wants to use it. I was unsure of its popularity but love the look so I thought, why not give it a go! I appreciate your feedback. Happy sewing!!

Very impressive, well done. I can't believe that you can get a hide for $20, don't think there's much chance of that here in Scotland.

The bag is gorgeous Once again another informative video...I really like RLR Creation patterns...I have made the Koala, Oveta Fold over ( similar unique side construction) and the Mayla. Several others are on my list, I would have passed over this one but your inspiring video has changed my mind, I do not have an industrial so I will have choose fabrics My machine can handle, but you videos make my creatives ideas flow which is the goal for all great teachers...Thanks Barb

Just a note Chris, I have make many many Hair on Hide bags and have found that it’s not a good idea to put the hair on the back of a handbag, because over time the hair will rub off. In the beginning of my making these bags, in several months I was getting complaints from my customers. Just a thought for you to consider I really enjoy your videos.

I love this bag so much! Your tutorials are always so good and so helpful!! Thank you for showing how you set the grommet and how you place the rivet. I also thought the way you connected your strap looks very elegant and beautiful! I'm really curious about the SC hardware on your bag, if you ever decide to do a video about that. It occured to me that maybe the gusset and the connector with the grommet on it could be done on the cylinder arm? Do you think your 2750 would be convenient for the gusset, or is it just helpful for topstitching a drop in lining? Thank you for another awesome KZbin video!
@audenhealey26433 жыл бұрын
I'm asking about your 2750 because I'm still really debating if I should get a cylinder arm or a flat bed. I have a vintage industrial walking foot (singer 111w155) that I sew on for now.
@simplyclassic3 жыл бұрын
The cylinder arm came with a flat bed table attachment. I think that I can really use it for both the flat bed and the cylinder arm interchangeably. I am just so comfortable using my consew. If I had to do it all again, I think I would skip purchasing the flat bed and just buy the cylinder arm with the flat bed attachment. I need to do an entire bag from start to finish with the cylinder arm. I think it would be an eye opener for everyone, including myself! I will try to get that done soon. I appreciate you watching and your feedback! Thank so very much!,

I did show how to do the key fob in the Fairhaven Tote video. Here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/sF6keZ2AnJaojdE. You will have to scroll to the where I show how to do the lining and it is part of that section. Thanks for subscribing!

Hi Chris I noticed the rack you have next to the door for your bags where did you get it if you don't mind me asking thank you
@simplyclassic3 жыл бұрын
Hi Margie, I purchased that at a drapery workroom trade show several years ago. I used to make custom drapes, pillows, etc. The company was just starting out and I am not sure they made it because I have never seen it again. I don’t recall their name. I searched online and a possible alternative is a horse blanket rack. The only thing is that they are typically mounted vertically instead of horizontally. If you search, you might be able to find a horizontal one though. Here is a link to one I found. It is really convenient because the bars swing to the right and left. I haven’t searched, but possibly also a poster holder, like what you would find in a store or a carpet holder would work. I hope this helps!

Yes it does but you didn’t list the link ha ha ha it’s ok I do it all the time

What woven interfacing did you use for the fabric lining?

I used Woven Fuse 2. I have a heat press and it works great with it.

Would it be difficult to cut fringe in the hair on hide? (not for this project, just in general).
@simplyclassic3 жыл бұрын
I think so because you really don’t want to cut the actual hair if you can help it. Tassel cuts are so small, I think it would be tough. This hair was so short that it was hard to not cut the hair. Typically you don’t want to do that.
@4golfing2 жыл бұрын
Would love a reply to this. I have a black diamond mink coat that I kept to make a bag with. Would you use it as accent?
@simplyclassic2 жыл бұрын
How long is the hair? If it is short, I would probably use it as the main part of the bag, but add leather accents to break it up a bit. I think that using accents with hair on hide brings out the hair on hide and makes it even better. If it is a long hair, then yes, I would use it only as an accent. I would love to see what you come up with!
@kimberleeleach89753 жыл бұрын
Scoring the backside of hide with exacto knife will enable you to pull it apart and not cut hair

Where did you purchase your initials?
@simplyclassic3 жыл бұрын
Jen, Here is a link to the etsy shop where I purchased my metal tags. Tasha is great to work with and was very responsive. She is in California, and I thought it was going to be an American Made product, but they ended up coming from China. It took a total of two months from start to finish which from what I can tell, is pretty typical. www.etsy.com/shop/MetalThingsArt
