This is a live recording from my recital, Music by Women, on March 27, 2023.
Marie Elisabeth von Sachsen-Meiningen was a German princess and composer born in 1853. She received musical training from her father and later from Franz Liszt. Her Romanze for clarinet and piano, written in 1877, is a lyrical and expressive piece that showcases her gift for melody. The clarinet takes center stage with a soaring melody, while the piano provides a supportive accompaniment that enhances the emotional content of the piece. The Romanze is a prime example of the Romantic era's emphasis on expressing emotion through music.
