To me, Diana Vishneva is a once in a lifetime ballerina. There are plenty of others I like very much, but she is a cut above the rest. Amongst the men, I find Shklyarov an excellent dancer, but overall I like the Bolshoi men at the moment (Lantratov, Chudin, Belyakov)

tereshkina and novikova and of course vishneva are truly the principal ballerinas of this company (i think skorik is lovely too but not like same level of magic you feel when you see them). they are three dancers i believe will be remembered in history as some of the most memorable ballerinas who still dance today like zakharova and osipova (who is one of my favorite ballerinas and i bet bolshoi kicks themselves to this day for letting her go!). and most of the men are amazing and kimin never fails to amaze me with his float-like jumps and PERFECT turns (although xander is still my favorite because he is so humble and a Godly man and so talented). somova has lovely lines but she lacks strength. i think she may get more accolades than deserved because she is blonde, tall, skinny, and flexible. but when you get past it she is not so like interesting to watch.
@minissa2009
@minissa2009 3 жыл бұрын
I've never understood why Somova got promoted so far in advance of Novikova. Her extension is so extreme she's often distorting her line to achieve it, her fouettes are just plain odd looking, and I've seen footage of her where she's as far off the music as you can get and still be in the same ballet. Plus she's retained some Russian mannerisms from way pre-glasnost that most dancers and companies have justifiably let fall by the wayside. Glad to see Novikova's quality finally got recognized!

Thank you for the video! I found it difficult to concentrate on the first two ladies due to visual distractions from their large diameter and inflexible tutus. It fit with their turns, but not the jumps or one leg hops. Ballerina #3 was lovely. Her costume was not distracting and she had the beautiful Mariinsky arms and upper body. Ah, Diana Vishneva has not retired. I saw her as a young ballerina in La Bayadere (Los Angeles) and I could not wait for her to come back on stage. As for the male dancers, I am happy to see that Kim has an able equal in Shklyarov. This is a new name for me.

Alina Somova is beautiful here, but I’ve been concerned about some of her recent performances. I did not think she danced well on the whole. It’s true she is a little heavier after having a baby, so maybe that’s it. You can see what I mean in the 2020 video of International Ballet Day.
@migiyoga6926

Somova's really not a great dancer even before she got pregnant. She is really inconsistent. I guess Russian ballet directors promote their dancers based on the traditional aesthetic aspect of being a "diva" and not really based on capabilities and skills. I guess Mariinsky redeemed themselves by promoting Novikova recently who is far more superior than Somova.

ALINA SIMOVA HAS NEVER BEEN A QUESTIONABLE DANSER. SHE IS ONE OF THE MOST PRESSURE JEWELRY AT THE THEATER. The people who chose her to be a principal saw all she has to offer as a artist and a dancer- - technique, long beautiful legs, great extensions, musicality, artistry, hard work and ethics , and high professionalism. If someone doesn’t appreciate all her qualities and skills it’s their problem not hers. She has so soft jump landing that we can rarely hear any noise. When she dances she totally inhabits the role and expresses with the language of the dance movements the story of the character she presents. She is unique dancer, beautiful woman and an amazing artist.

@@galinapopov909 Obviously, you are a fan of Alina, but you must remember that ballet is an art, and Alina is an artist. Imagine how boring the world would be if we all experienced art in the exact same way. Blah, yuck, boooring! Do you feel the same way about a Rembrandt as you do a Picasso? If I see something perfect and you think it only mediocre, that doesn’t make me right and you wrong. Stop being so sensitive and let people express their opinions!

Ermakov looks sloppy and out of shape in his variation. He looks like the kind of dancer we all know so well, the lazy dancer. He dances like he's been cutting out of company class after barre for years. Such a shame.

Fateyev is a HORRIBLE artistic director. And so is Gergiev. They have ruined the great theatre pretty much 😰 0 seconds ago

There's some lovely but pretty boring dancing here. Where's the bravura (apart from Vishneva of course) The very very best dancers 'live' the role. How many of these performers can be said to do that? The Mariinsky prides itself on being amongst the best in the world, but here we see their best dancers not engaging with certain phrases, not finishing off their feet consistently, and (especially the guys) not opening up in the hips to get the desired line. Getting round the stage without falling over isn't enough. How many of these performances does one see and think 'this is a truly special performance?'

Victoria Tereshkina and Vladimir Shklyarov are always distinguished by excellent technical and artistic performance.

I was thinking the same thing, esp with the men apart from Kim and Shklyarov, but I guess this could be the choice of video clips. Love Tereshkina and am happy Novikova finally got promoted.

That must be the compagny style. In the bolshoi they can show more. It seemed to be a period in the house of being perfect but lifeless.
