Hi Friends, the last time I sat down with Michael Beinhorn we looked at Soundgarden’s "Black Hole Sun" which he engineered and produced! Now we’re breaking down "The Dope Show" which was the lead single from Marilyn Manson’s third album, Mechanical Animals. Throughout his career, Michael has worked with artists like Herbie Hancock, The Violent Femmes, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soul Asylum, Hole, Ozzy Osbourne, Courtney Love, Marilyn Manson, Social Distortion, Korn, Golden Palominos, and Mew. Please let me know what songs that Michael has Produced you'd like to know about!

I love that Pogo got lots of love for his synth work.

Definitely, even his live work is so deeply missed. You always have the people that say he does nothing on stage or you wouldn't notice if he wasn't there, but when he left, the void he left in live shows is huge.
@standinsilence
@standinsilence 3 жыл бұрын
Was he even playing live? I just remember him pushing his keyboard over or just repeatedly hammering on one key. I was always assuming his synthsounds were never live. Anyone know more about this?
@ItsToXxy
@ItsToXxy 3 жыл бұрын
@@standinsilence He was most likely mapping all his synth parts and samples to one key triggers. I remember reading somewhere, that Manson preferred Chris Vrenna's live keyboard playing over Pogos, cuz Vrenna would actually play the parts.
@TheLokiBiz
@TheLokiBiz 5 ай бұрын
@@ItsToXxy To be fair, Manson has said similar things about a lot of ex members after they left. He praised Pogo a bunch before he left - From what I can tell watching live videos, Pogo definitely seemed to play keyboards live a lot more back in the Portrait and Smells Like Children days - But as the band got bigger I'd imagine a lot of that stuff became more and more automated. At any rate, Pogo's song writing and in-studio synth, sampling and tape loop work is still hard to debate - I mean beyond what's spoke about here, listen to something like Cryptorchid (him and manson got writing credits) or Kinderfeld (him, Twiggy and Manson got credits, if i remember) and you can really hear what he brought. If in the later years, he focused more on putting on a good show, i wouldn't hate on him. There's also the fact that a lot of what Pogo did wasn't just synths or keyboard anyhow - he also did a lot of sample and tape loop manipulation. That stuff he'd kinda have to trigger.

Wondering how many bridges Manson has burned since then. I guess it's up to the Nothing people now if they can re-release anything from the 90's. Trent was sour the band didn't want him in charge of their records anymore. Manson and Pogo had a falling out after the lawsuit. Twiggy still remains tight with Manson but had to be kicked out of the band because rape allegations. AFAIK John 5 joined only after they had written everything for it, I don't remember him recording anything until Holywood.

Thank You ever so much Warren. I purchased the Mechanical Animals cd the week it was released. I didn't start off as a MM fan. I played in bands and listened to bands at that time that were more on the Metal/Thrash end of the spectrum. Testament, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Sepaltura..I didn't like the gimmicks and playing dress up part of what I saw from Manson. When ACSS was released Manson Filmed the tour and released a live performance video of several shows that really show cased the talent in that band. I saw that VHS on the shelf at a record store and decided that I would give it a chance. That VHS was awesome and it changed my mind about MM. I purchased the ACSS cd and loved it as well. When this album came out I was excited and expecting something next level. I never expected this. It's like when Terminator 2 came out and the upgraded Terminator was so amazing and it blew everyone away. People were not ready for the melting metal and metal bending effects that were the highlight of that movie. I would say that this albums songs get covered the least out of all the music I hear covered by bands. People just don't know how to go about recreating it, even "in their own way". As a music lover, recording/mix engineer, and musician of 47 years I must say Thank You so much for creating content like this. Cheers everyone! Please like and subscribe and share this content with your friends so that Warren can continue to bring us this amazing content!

I've been a Manson fan since 1995 and I've listened to every album and though Pale Emperor is a close second Mechanical Animals is still my favorite. I feel like MC is the most consistent, energetic and fully realized batch of songs Manson has ever put out and I've always admired the production of it so it's a real treat to see an interview with the producer. My only problem with MC is the cheerleader chant on the the chorus of Posthuman, I wish Manson would rerelease this album with outtakes and the cheerleader chant taken out.

Just another day at the 'office' for you guys, but great to hear more about making these tracks. Thanks. Not only that, but some of those sounds just gave me some great ideas of what to do with a track that needs attention, so I'm off to play some wierd noises, now, so thanks again

Michael Beinhorn's remarks during the last 4min of this video is THE BEST commentary I have heard in a LONG time!!! Actually, Rick Beato has a video about how The Grid/ quantozation has killed the groove and robbed the humanity from modern rock music - which is something Dave Grohl was trying to get across when he was promoting HBO's Somic Highways, his own Sound City film/ and Foo Fighters' Wasting Light. And they are ALL CORRECT!! Rampant overuse of time "correction" and sound replacement has created a new "sound", but also made that music devoid of the GREASE that is supposed to make Rock Music - edgy, scary, cathartic, wild, and out of control. It has created instead something too homogeneous, sterile, sanitized and ultimately safe. Kudos to you Warren Huart, for revisiting this album for us to enjoy! 🤘🏻🦁

"Mechanical Animal" is (for me) the best and most mature MM album. We can smell the drugs and abuse through our ears! 😀 Once again, thanks Warren for sharing! You're my fav' mixing channel with URM.

WOW! This is like the video of my dreams. Since I listened to this song I couldn‘t get over the fact of how well produced this is with various components and beats. I especially love the beat that sounds very „Glam 70s“. I am not even kidding: I always wanted to listen to its components isolated because it seems so well put together. This is like a dream came true! Thank you so much for this video!

A beautiful precursor to when Computers made Rock music whereby the instruments were made to sound computerised... I note the most apt and delicate omission of where much of the sounds and beats came from... a certain silvery gentleman who fronted amazing songs and production by Mike Leander. 🙏 x

Thank you for doing this video! Im a very big fan of the production he had in the early 2000 with Tim Skold. It would be great to know a bit more about his vocal sound on those ones :) Cheers Warren!

Thanks. This was great. It was interesting to hear the vocals solo'd - the amount of layering and panning was intense at points, but the way it then drops back to just 1 or 2 voices! The contrast! Wow.. Mechanical Animals was to me the best Marilyn Manson album ever, so to hear this is extremely interesting an educational. Thanks again.
