Lyrics:
If you say that we're ill
Just give us your pill
Hope we'll just go away
but once you've inhaled death
everything else is perfume
Maybe I'm just a mystery
I could end up your misery
Maybe I'm just a mystery
I could end up your misery
In the end we all end up in a garbage dump
But I'll be the one that’s holding your hand
We are sick, fucked up and complicated
We are chaos, we can't be cured
We are sick, fucked up and complicated
We are chaos, we can't be cured
Maybe I'm just a mystery
I could be your misery
Maybe I'm just a mystery
Marry with the left hand
So far so far from the mad'ning crowd
We are sick, fucked up and complicated
We are chaos, we can't be cured
We are sick, fucked up and complicated
We are chaos, we can't be cured
Am I a man or a show, or moment
The man in the moon
or a man of all seasons
Will I be in at the kill
With you?
We are sick, fucked up and complicated
We are chaos, we can't be cured
We are sick, fucked up and complicated
We are chaos, we can't be cured
We are sick

I get it. I was started on an antidepressant in 5th grade. Then I learned about the "children, teens, & young adults" warning on every single one of them lol & I was like "Hold up what lol." Legit was put on an antipsychotic in middle school after I said I couldn't sit still/was very fidgety/etc. That was probably a side effect of whatever they were trying me on at the time, because as an adult I tried a bad medication (that I wouldn't recommend to anyone) that gave me what I called "the stretchies". Felt like I had to stretch constantly & be walking all the time because sitting was unbearable. Never again lol.

Message from Manson sent via newsletter as promo for this album: "WHEN SHOOTER AND I DECIDED TO START MAKING THIS ALBUM ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO, WE WERE BOTH DOING TOURS SO WE HAD TO WORK AROUND OUR SCHEDULES. SHOOTER AND I HAD A SHARED LOVE FOR BOWIE'S ERA WITH BRIAN ENO. AND I WASN'T AFRAID TO TRY NEW THINGS WITH HIM WRITING THE MUSIC. HE ALSO HELPED ME TO BE UNAFRAID TO TRY OLD THINGS. AS A PRODUCER, HE REALLY PUSHED ME TO BE BOTH NEW AND STILL TRUE TO WHAT THE CORE OF MARILYN MANSON IS. HIS PERSPECTIVE ADDED THE TRANS-DIMENSIONAL ELEMENT THAT I WAS ALWAYS LOOKING TO TAP INTO. WHEN I LISTEN TO WE ARE CHAOS NOW, IT SEEMS LIKE JUST YESTERDAY OR AS IF THE WORLD REPEATED ITSELF, AS IT ALWAYS DOES, MAKING THE TITLE TRACK AND THE STORIES SEEM AS IF WE WROTE THEM TODAY. THIS WAS RECORDED TO ITS COMPLETION WITHOUT ANYONE HEARING IT UNTIL IT WAS FINISHED. THERE IS MOST DEFINITELY A SIDE A AND SIDE B IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE. BUT JUST LIKE AN LP, IT IS A FLAT CIRCLE AND IT'S UP TO THE LISTENER TO PUT THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE INTO THE PICTURE OF SONGS. THIS CONCEPT ALBUM IS THE MIRROR SHOOTER AND I BUILT FOR THE LISTENER- IT'S THE ONE WE WON'T STARE INTO. THERE ARE SO MANY ROOMS, CLOSETS, SAFES AND DRAWERS. BUT IN THE SOUL OR YOUR MUSEUM OF MEMORIES, THE WORST ARE ALWAYS THE MIRRORS. SHARDS AND SLIVERS OF GHOSTS HAUNTED MY HANDS WHEN I WROTE MOST OF THESE LYRICS. I EXPLORE IDEAS ON THE ALBUM, SUCH AS PERFUME. SOMETHING SO BEAUTIFUL, THE SCENT CAN BE REMEMBERED FOREVER. BUT IT IS ALSO FLAMMABLE ENOUGH TO BURN DOWN A HOUSE. IT'S THE FRAGILE BALANCE OF POWER AND THE ONES WHO HOLD THE MATCH OR SMELL THE LOVELIEST. THE PAINTING I DID SPECIFICALLY TO ACCOMPANY THE MUSIC...THOSE ARE MY REFLECTIONS. MAKING THIS RECORD, I HAD TO THINK TO MYSELF: 'TAME YOUR CRAZY, STITCH YOUR SUIT. AND TRY TO PRETEND THAT YOU ARE NOT AN ANIMAL' BUT I KNEW THAT MANKIND IS THE WORST OF THEM ALL. MAKING MERCY IS LIKE MAKING MURDER. TEARS ARE THE HUMAN BODY'S LARGEST EXPORT. - MARILYN MANSON"

I wish I could thank him in person for all he has done and still does for me. I'm currently 31, and I was introduced to his music in high school. I would sit in home room and listen to his music and draw abstract concept art in my notebook to illustrate everything his music made me feel. He has kept me from giving in to suicidal depression so many times and still does even though I'm severely disabled and isolated in a small town that doesn't accept me or even look at me as human. When I almost took my life with a razor to the throat at 16, having his music playing in my head at the time and looking at myself in the mirror brought me strength and a will to keep living like I've never known before and has driven me forward ever since. This song is one of many that reminds me of that morning and why I keep fighting to be happy in life and find my happiness despite all of my negative emotions.

Freedom is a state of mind, and to remember that in these songs between the words are depicted rotten and old boot of totalitarian "demokritian with platonic smile trying to not be compressed by the weight of totalitarian boot government, system, people who boost their egoism waiting for a facebook like. Manson explicitely shows self importance feeling cult, where only around 1 person planets orbit spinning. Reminds me of Rotting Christ's "God, Fear And Fire" intro: those who make you believe in absurdities can make you to commit attrocities...

It's okay to enjoy his work without actually supporting his platform and the things he did. There's a lot of great art that's made by people who've done fucked up things. There's no need to put the creator on a pedestal, and make the mistake of thinking that someone who has made great art can't be a bad person and do terrible things. They're not mutually exclusive and humans are complex beings and it's never black and white. His older albums were instrumental in shaping who I became and for that reason they'll always have a place in my heart and nothing changes the fact that they were genius!

We really need more music from him but with all the BS legalities he’s had to deal with in this ghastly MeToo world, I just don’t know if his career is over. DEdubp I didn’t either! Though after listening to it about a dozen times now, I think I love it. I had a whole range of emotions when I listened to it the first few times. At first I was disappointed... offended even. I think I actually went through the entire grieving process. But then I realized that my disappointment was not that it was a bad song, rather it was that my expectations were not being met, so I listened again, taking his previous work out of the equation, and I came to the conclusion that I personally really like it. Have you come to any conclusions yet?

@@jessicalee3929 I mean, some people are able to separate art from artist. You'd be a liar if you tried to say Michael Jackson wasn't one of the most influential artists of our time. Whether or not the allegations are true, Marilyn Manson's music has literally been the sound track to my life, and I can't undo the feelings the music gives me, even if the artist turns out to be an abuser. My personal enjoyment of music doesn't hinge on the artist being a good person. I still love classical music, even though i'm sure most of the artists were probably horribly racist and/or sexist.

I loved Marilyn Manson since i was 10 back in the year 2000. This song touches me deeply as someone that is mentally ill, on medication, and an addict of alcohol and some drugs. I just try to get through it all a little bit each day.
