I, for one, shall not be one to be caught delighting in the unclean exposure of sensitive parts of a woman. The immorality of the harlot to find mirth in exposing her ankles strikes me as the beginning of the decay of society. Before we know it, these floozies may find it time to push the moral envelope further and proceed to wear pantaloons, drive horse and carriages, operate the newly emerging automobiles that are as vulgar as these harlots theirselves, and perhaps even wish to vote. Good heavens! (a gasp appears on my face and my monocle falls and breaks on tjed ground) They may even venture to one day, work, own property, and maybe even head the household! I have left imagination take the best of me. I feel a faint. Fetch me my opium, lest we find a woman be vice president!

@@Merseyrock And what's the problem?
@Merseyrock2 жыл бұрын
@@CătălinaMaria1896 I didn't mean to imply there was a problem; my point being that every age has a different perspective on things: What may be shocking at one time, goes unnoticed at another... I found that ironic. Another example: In Victorian Times, table legs could be draped over with cloth, because bare table legs were deemed to be inappropriate as they might subconsciously suggest sexual innuendo to an onlooker. Again, I am not judging Victorians on their take on things within their time; I just find it ironic that something that could be offensive to some people at one time, could go past caring by people of another time. Everything is relative, yet the value of any perspective may be absolute within the time frame it is considered in.

The only certainty we have in life is that we are eventually going to die. Aging in reverse seems worse at least to me from watching Benjamin Button 🤷

I love these enhanced and colorized old films. It makes our ancestors seem real in a way the old, grainy, too-fast black and white images can't.

Thanks for posting this clip! By the way, the lady saying "thats' all" at the end is probably Annette Hanshaw -- that was her signature line.

Tell me, how else would women walk around without dragging their dress along the pavement? It had to be above their ankles.

I'm still afraid to show my ankles. Mostly bc they're dry and ashy.
@howler15793 жыл бұрын
@@SamuelBlack84 the ladies in the video are wearing everyday "walking skirts" which are completely different to bustles. They were typically worn above the ankles to prevent the dress from getting damaged or dirty, the "bustle dress" however is from a completely era and not really related to the video. And I should add the these people are actors and the reactions were exaggerated for the film.

Look how everyone is dressed so fine back then. Now you have guys wearing pants so low you can see their underwear pertruding out. Ridiculous and Stupid fashion in my opinion. And this may sound like it came from a boomer.

I'm a uh...millenial(*shudders at that word*) and I've always worn my pants up with a belt and shirt tucked in, ever since my teens. I love it because I've always liked the manly metallic belt buckle showing.

Ok then YOU wear a corset to Walmart. No one’s stopping you
@sarahpiaggio26933 жыл бұрын
It's rather ironic, but women DO wear corsets now. Things have turn full circle. We know how bad they are for the health, and yet this fashion to look like a cartoon caricature of a sexy woman has caused women to go back to wearing corsets. They're modernised and easier to get on, of course, but the basic principle of crushing your organs is right there. Added to this, women get life-threatening butt injections as well as all manner of pointless surgeries, all in the pursuit of an ideal that doesn't exist. And then we think we're better and more "advanced" than the Edwardians. how sad for us.

brilliant workmanship to restore, enhance and colourise the film, you bring all the life in the busy city back to life, the people move/look slightly ghostly not in a scary way but maybe sentimental, maybe our minds are trying to believe life can be like that again
