Marilyn Zschau, Gösta Winbergh & Hermann Prey etc - "Hm! hm! hm! hm!" DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE (Mozart) 1979

The excellent American soprano, Marilyn Zschau, wowed Australian audiences with memorable portrayals of roles such as Salome, Lady Macbeth, Aida, Minnie, Manon Lescaut, Tosca, Valentine and Elektra. This excerpt from a televised performance of Mozart's DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE finds her cast as the First Lady ... proving that one should always cast their finest soprano in this important ensemble role. The production comes from the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Switzerland, and her colleagues include the wonderful Hermann Prey and Gösta Winbergh as Papageno and Tamino. Marilyn Zschau's colleagues as the other two Ladies of the Queen of Night are Livia Budai, Liljana Nejceva. The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande is conducted by Rolf Reuter in this performance from 1979 - the same year as Zschau's Australian debut as Minnie in LA FANCIULLA DEL WEST.

Thank you Brian for the wonderful memories of all the great stars of Australian Opera in its finest era which I was lucky enough to witness from the front row C reserve-the side of the row so I could watch the conductors in action-including yourself, I was there for Marilyn s Tosca and Minnie, all of Joan Sutherland s performances and of Leona Mitchell s Susan Dunn s Horst Hoffmann s Marilyn Richardson s Donald Smiths Joan Carden s Anson Austin s and all of Maestro Carlo Cillario s wonderful interpretations-thank you for letting me relieve my memories which sustain me to this day.
